What a disaster! I really thought that it would be a breeze but just I learned how out of shape I really am! My vitals seemed to be all over the place and my pressure was through the roof. I haven't gotten results but I'm almost positive I won't get clearance after that!

Not necessarily. Did they tell you anything about your heart rhythm? The whole purpose of the test is to see how the heart responds to work and if there are signs of a lack of oxygen to the heart. While doing exercise the BP can go up. Mine went up to 160/100 and then after the test went back down to normal.

Either way it will be a good thing to find out if there were changes on the cardiogram or not. If so, it doesn't mean you can't ever have surgery. It might mean you need further follow-up or treatment before surgery can be scheduled.

Good Luck and keep us posted!

I did a stress too and I realized how bad I felt just trying to walk fast. I did find out that the heart valve issue I was told I had years ago (1988) doesn't exist. Don't freak out just yet. I think our surgeons know that some of those issues you felt are directly related to the excess weight. Are you on BP medicine? Did you go totally caffeine free atleast 12 hours prior to testing?

They should be able to tell you if it's positive or negative pretty quickly. I was told 5 minutes after finishing that everything came back negative. I got about 30 seconds into level 3 and had to stop. Because my heart rate was over 165 for 60 seconds, that's all they needed. I'd call back to see what the status is.

I was told during my stress test that they aren't allowed to tell you during the test whether or not you have failed. That a doctor will call you if there was anything wrong. And that no news is good news.

I may need to correct my statement. The nurses only told me after the doctor looked at it AFTER my test was completed. The nurses didn't tell me during what it looked like, only after the doctor gave them a green light.

Thanks for the responses. I have a 2 part test so I have to go back tomorrow to finish the rest. I had no caffeine and I'm on BP meds but couldn't take any meds before the test. I'm just not going to worry too much about it. I'll just be super disappointed if they don't clear me for surgery because most of my issues are due to my weight and if that little bit of "exercise" causes me so much exertion then I don't see how I'll ever get the weight off *sigh*

So it's been a few days since I completed the stress test...the nurse said no news is good news and I have yet to hear from anyone. How long does it take for the results? Should I call them or just wait to hear if I've been cleared? I've also had my pulmonary test and sleep study already and never heard back should I assume all these were ok?

Yes, no news is good news & worse case scenario, all the results get forwarded to your surgeon and they will have the definite answer and won't move forward unless all is clear. For all my tests, including stress test, I never heard anything back and when I met with my surgeon all was ok :) if anything was wrong you would have heard by now :) I thought for sure I failed my stress test too

I was told that if anything was really wrong with my stress test they would not have allowed me to leave following it. I would go with the no news is good news theory.

Thanks! I'm going to assume things were ok because if not hopefully somebody would be getting me some medical attention by now lol.

All I have left to do to is my EGD and last NUT and weigh in on the 23rd then they submit to insurance.

I'm still trying to decide on which surgery though...such a hard decision!

Gosh... Dont get me started on the stress test! HA. True story...I felt like a complete piece of crap. No joke. I was like okay, I got this. I run at the gym for at least a mile without fail for like 20-30 minutes all the time. I got on the tredmill for the stress test and within 6 minutes I was D-O-N-E! I physically could not move anymore. (I do have edema in my legs / feet though). Super embarrassing too.

But the way the DR explained it to me was that they just need to see how your heart responds & how it recovers from it. My heart rate & blood pressure got up pretty high pretty fast but came right back down super fast too. The DR said I was absolutely fine & in fact I have less than a 1% chance of heart problems in the future.

I would give it a few days and call to get the results if they dont call you.. That way you're not beating yourself up about it. They wouldnt tell me my results at the testing date or over the phone, they made me go to their office for the results. Its okay though because I got the clearance letter at that time and gave it to my DR to save some time.

I've been dreaming about it for 30 years or so. It's time to make it happen!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
