Ok, so I'm 8 weeks out and all of a sudden everything tastes disgustingly salty. It started yesterday, and when I woke up this morning I could still taste it. It's completely overpowering!

When I started eating meat again, spicy food made me cough...a lot! That was new! I used to love very spicy food. I cut the spices down to half as much as I use to eat...I was good with that. Then yesterday this salt thing started and that's all I can taste.

Today I didn't use any salt or anything with salt in it. Still, the taste. UGH!!!

Has anyone else ever had this problem?

I haven't used a salt shaker since surgery. This is only bizarre because I was a saltoholic pre-op. I have noticed that most foods already taste salty, but this has been consistent for me not sudden. Are you taking a PPI? I was just wondering if the spicy foods were causing acid...

Everything tastes salty to me also, but black pepper is worst. I can now use a little pepper, but right after surgery I could not tolerate Black Pepper at all.

I can use pepper, just not Cajun or blackened seasoning. I live in metro New Orleans, so it's quite a problem for me. I've lived my entire adult life down here and I LOVE spicy food!

I haven't used salt for 2 days, but I can still taste it. I've used black pepper, garlic & lemon juice on shrimp and fish. I haven't had chicken since this all started but when I do I'll use a pinch of spice and see if I can handle it. I do take a PPI and haven't had any acid problems since surgery!

Thanks for the feedback! It really helps to know that I'm not the only one!!!

I haven't noticed it yet. I do know when I'm trying to decide whAt to make to eat, nothing is appealing. I've used a garlic/ pepper seasoning when I'm cooking but it hasn't been an overwhelming taste yet. Watch, now that I'm replying it will start bothering me lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
