Hi everyone,

I was banded on 5-18-13 and converted to the VGS on 3-4-15 the band was removed and sleeved in the same day. I did not have much success with the band. My starting weight was 256 and when I was converted over I weight 226. The lowest weight I ever got down to was 199 but that was because the band was two tight and I could not even hold Water sometimes. I was a fight with the band. Since my conversion, ive lost 13 pounds which is not bad for almost 30 days post op. My doctor did state that since my body is already use to eating smaller meals the weight may come off slightly slower then for someone who never had a bariatric procedure. I'm still on soft foods and sometimes I get disappointed that I have not lost more weight yet but I am being patience.

What advised did your doctor give about your potential weight lost after the conversion?

I had the sleeve on February 4, 2014 I weighed 350 in January of 2013. My surgeon wanted me to lose weight before the surgery and with his guidance I was down to 299 the day of my surgery. Today March 31,2015 I am at 210. I weighed 233 in November of 2014 and did gain weight over the holidays, but now I am back on track. The trick I used was to go back to the all liquid diet of juices, broths and Protein shakes. I had to portion the Protein Shakes because I can't drink a full shake at one time. It is important to only eat small amounts because if you overdo it you will regurgitate. I cannot, absolutely cannot drink before or after I eat for 30 minutes at least or else I will lose it. Keep up the good work and the weight will come off. Remember you have to move. Exercise is very important.

I agree with the drinking. I never thought I would be able to not drink with my meals...boy was I wrong! I cannot drink with meals at all or I will lose it. :)

Hey everyone, so I'm kinda at a stand still with my weight loss. It will be 3 months in a few days and I'm hovering around 205-208. I've lost only like 20 pounds. The day of my revision I weighed 226. I have my 2.5 month appt with my doctor on the 16th but I'm just frustrated because I work out with a personal trainer 3 days a week and have been for almost 2 months and I can physically see a change in my body as do others but the numbers on the scale are not changing :/ anyone else having this issue ??

I love that you posted this. I had my lap band removed last summer, and was sleeved in May. I am down 30lbs from my starting weight, but thought I would be much further along after 2 months. I am trying to remain positive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
