Water revolting anyone else?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am one week post op. Things were going good. From day one I was able to get 60 plus ounces of Water. Protein I was lacking on (70 grams recommended). Now a week later drinking water makes me want to gag. Before surgery I would drink nothing but water. I am currently looking for other alternatives. Yesterday I fell in love with V8 juice. Any other ideas?

It is pretty common from what I have seen posted on here. I couldn't stand the taste of Water for almost 2 months after my surgery and I loved drinking it before. I added little flavor enhancers to it and it helped. I also drank no sugar added juice and added water to it. Teas are also great. It does usually go away. So keep trying water by itself and one day, it tastes okay again! :)

I do. I've hated it since day 1. Something about it makes me want to hurl. If I change it from Water to tea I can drink a lot of it.

No Water for me please. yuck

I haven't been able to tolerate Water since the beginning. You can try adding different flavoring to your water. Just keep experimenting and eventually you will find something you like. I drink Propel water peach flavored. Good luck and hang in there :)

Almost two years out here and Water makes me gag 90% of the time. I drink coffee, coke zero, Gatorade diluted 50/50, Crystal Light, Minute Maid flavor drops in my Water and beer. :D

Sometimes I can swallow plain water, sometimes it thunks in my stomach like lead.

I didn't like the taste of it at all, but it didn't make me nauseous. I just carry bottles to work and drink it out of habit, but often I add Crystal light or Mio to it. I have found that drinking it plain occasionally for a couple of weeks now, I like it again taste wise. I hope you get over the Water nausea because it is really the best, most convenient, and most affordable source of hydration!

I couldn't drink plain Water for about 4 months. I also couldn't do artificial sweeteners...they hurt my sleeve. Besides my Protein Shakes I drank regular Vitamin water and lifewater, pedialyte, 100% juice, skim milk and a lot of Decaf herbal tea, both hot and iced. I diluted the juice and sports drinks about 1/2 and 1/2 with water because everything tasted too sweet to me postop. I did drink V8 sometimes but it would burn my sleeve, so not too much.

Wow. Others just like me! I gave up soda many years ago and have been a Water drinker for about 17 years. After my surgery Nov. 2014? Nope. I can't stand it! I've tried filtered, bottled... whatever. YUCK. I wasn't drinking nearly enough.

Now? I am addicted to Crystal Light lemon iced tea powder. Put that in my Water and I'm back to drinking 80+ oz a day. I TRY to drink a bit of plain water during the day too; just to say I did.

Glad I am not the only one. I won't give up on it. I have and liked Propel and the crystal light add ins. The one I am worried about is the Original V8. Just because of the extra sodium. I am absolutely craving them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
