Lots of frustration!

I am 5 feet 7 inches. The day I left the hospital I weighed 259 pounds. Tomorrow will be exactly 3 months and I am down 40 pounds. My surgeon had a resident talk to me as well as the hospital nutritionist. The resident said I should aim for 65 grams of Protein and calories around 600 to 700. I have experienced a couple of stalls and from reading here realize that is normal. I get more than necessary fluids. As of now, I still need to lose almost 80 pounds. I cannot exercise at this point so diet is my only resource. In doing a lot of research, I wonder if my calories and protein are too low. Is there anyone whose stats are similar to mine who can give me some ideas? I can eat anything... Fish, chicken, lean beef... Except hamburger. That stuff grosses me out! lol. I have gotten really creative with Protein Powder and seldom miss carbs. Even the couple of times I have cheated I have made sure to keep everything else in check. So, can anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong???

When was there ever another time in your life you lost 40 pounds in 3 months? You are doing great! Don't try to rush and don't worry about stalls or anything else. Just learn to live and eat according to your new stomach size and the rest will fall in place..Be proud - you are doing just fine.

40 lbs. is Great!!!! You're headed in the right direction! Congratulations!!

Check in with a Nutritionist with your surgeon's office, assuming it's local to you. If not, check with your PCP for a referral to a nutritionist with whom you can partner to help you with your food questions, general WLS guidance, etc.

A lot of us can give you suggestions, etc., but everyone's journey is different.

It is possible to be eating TOO FEW calories for weight loss.

My surgeon and nutritionist's guidelines are: min. 100 grams Protein daily and around 100 grams of carbs. Calories are 1000-1300.

If you can, for exercise - WALK! A lot. It will be better than not doing any physical activity.

Good luck on your journey!!!

Oh, I generally lose 30 to 40 pounds every summer when I can spend every waking moment in the pool. lol. it's keeping it off that's the problem. I read about so many people losing so much more and it is discouraging even though intellectually I know everyone is different. thank you for your words of encouragement.

thank you!thank you! I am going to try increasing my Protein for the next week and see what that does. I am unable to walk at this point because of back and nerve problems. I see a specialist in a couple of weeks for those issues.I found some wrist and ankle weights which I am going to start wearing around the house to see if that at least helps me tone a little bit. I guess anything is better than nothing.

I don't see you doing anything wrong. 40lbs at 3mths is a little over 13lbs a month. I also don't think the calories are too low. I'm at 6mths and my calories run between 700 -900 and 80 -100gm Protein. I'm losing just fine.

If you want to exercise, check youtube for chair exercises or use handweights.

today I am beginning to feel like the little engine who could... I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can... I can I know I can. lol

my husband keeps telling me that I am my own worst enemy. I have a hard time managing my expectations. I have been taking my measurements every few weeks and getting out my summer clothes has been a joy being able to wear clothes I have packed away for years. but that darn scale... Why won't it move???I want it all yesterday.

this site and all of you wonderful people are such and inspiration and it is like having my own personal cheering section.

I hope, someday, to be able to pay it forward

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
