Recommended Posts

Ok I'm 6 days out and I smell everything! My dogs, my carpet, my trash can....my fiance came in from work and I had to leave the room! Will this get better??

For me it did! My worst reaction to smell happened on the way to church. My husband and kids all stopped and got Starbucks. By the time we got to the freeway I had to pull over and vomit. 3mo out now & I'm much better :-)

Same here, it was like being pregnant all over again. It was really weird and for me almost as quickly as everything became revolting I reverted back to being able to smell things again. It was getting back to how things tasted that is still a work in progress, even almost 7 months out I will sometimes encounter a taste that is "yucky".

I had a terrible aversion to smells. Lasted about 4 weeks. Although I still am sensitive to certain smells like fish and garlic. I am about 7 weeks post op and still won't wear any perfume because I'm afraid it will make me nauseous!

Starting at one week post-op , I suddenly could not stand to smell my husbands hair gel, so he wore a baseball hat during he bad hair days without it. Now 6 weeks out nothing seems to bother me & the hubby can have good hair again. ;)

Same here... The big thing for me is that I can smell everyone's breath. It is disgusting. Even when I'm several feet away.

I could smell my OWN breath, and it was horrible! And everything smelled much too pungent. And tasted weird.

I'm at 8 weeks. All back to normal now.

Smart !!!! I also stay mostly with soft/wet foods even at 9 1/2 months out, IT WORKS, no major stalls and I've put very one in my post operative support group to shame with my results. Keep up the great work !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
