How can you tell with your sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am allowed to have soft and puréed foods. So what are the signs that your sleeve don't agree with the food choice? This might sound crazy also how do you know that your full because I am just scared to overeat. I just stop eating please help I know the question is crazy but it's the truth

For me.. IF my stomach doesn't like what I ate, within 5 minutes my mouth doing that over producing saliva thing that warns me that I am gonna hurl... and for me there is NO stopping it...

as far as feeling full... I am not really how to explain it.. it is not the same feeling as before surgery for me.. I kinda start getting a lump in the base of my throat... and I just don't eat anymore...

not sure how it is for anyone else...

For me I feel pressure in my chest when I either eat too fast or too much. I also know I'm getting full because strangely enough I start getting a running noise every time.

Stomach of steel here. NOTHING I've tried has disagreed with me.

However I tend to burp when I'm getting full. I also noticed I would get full with 1 - 2 bites left. Forcing those 2 more bites would leave me uncomfortably full. Like belly extremely tight. I also think that's why I had a little trouble with acid for a while. I stopped forcing those extra bites and now I'm fine. If are not yet feeling restriction, stick to the ¼ or ½ cup portion. I find for most people by the time you wait 30 mins - 1 hour and then drink Water, there's no more room to eat more anyway.

Same as @@catlover2565 with eating too much or too fast. I get the saliva, which causes me to swallow more, which causes my sleeve to fill up more. I basically have to throw up the excess spit to relieve the pressure. The pressure isn't painful, it's just uncomfortable like the food is moving up into my throat...which it sorta is.

I did this at least 2-3 times a week when I first got on purees. Now that I'm around 8 months out, I do it maybe every two weeks. It happens the most with dry Proteins.

It's just a live 'n learn situation. Nothing tragic, nothing painful.

I am a week out of surgery and I am also struggling with how to tell when I am full... however it seems to get a bit easier everyday. Like someone else mentioned, I seem to get a burp and that has been a good indicator that I am about done. I have also sometimes gotten a little pain and know I need to stop as well. I have overdone it with Soup already once (eating a bite or two more after the burp) and it came back up.

My dr advised post op day one and moving forward to eat by portion size rather than to search for the "full" feeling. Most cases are if you eat until u feel full you've already eaten more than you should because there is a delay in the time the stomach is full and the mind gets the signal. Thus another reason slow slow eating giving your body time to send the signal. Early on I could only handle very very small amounts and as you heal you you will notice what full means for you. We are all different. I notice by hiccups or slight belch. Knowing that I could comfortably eat 1/4 cup and be ok with no reactions was much better than not measuring and eating 1/2 cup only to loose it because it was more than I can handle. I'm at 21wks post op and still haven't been able to master eating enough or getting enough fluids. I did have a major set back that started 1/24 that I am still in recovery. I physically had great pain and was on some tough antibiotics which made eating difficult. This set back was not at all in relation to my surgery.

Use a baby spoon to eat and measure measure measure. If you know at 1/4 or 1/3 cup you are satisfied. The. Stop and carry on with your day. However this will help to bring balance know how much your eating. Best of luck!

It depends on the food but usually i would get a stabing pain, or general sick feeling when something doesn't agree.

As for when I know I'm full.... for me it's the same as before surgery. It's the same feeling. But when I eat too much I get the runny nose and nausea.

If your in the pureed food stage I wouldn't worry to much about the full feeling, that will come with solids.

When I am full it feels like everything I just ate is stuck in one spot. I have to get up and walk. I tried to get in the last two bites a few times (old habits die hard) but not anymore because it takes too long to walk it out and feel relief. It also feels like I need to burp but one won't come up.

I will give you some information that I received the other night. when I get full, I start getting the hic-ccups and a pain at the top of my belly. when I asked the doc what that was , he explained to me that was food sitting in my esophagus on top of my stomach. we must be careful how we eat. Full is too much. I had to learn to find the middle

I feel pressure too in my belly and my chest. Very uncomfortable feeling. Started soft/puréed foods a week ago. Getting about half way through a cup of yogurt. If I try to do more than that I get that feeling.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
