I am having surgery April 22. What are those must-have items I should get for the recovery time? Things that made you more comfortable?

sugar free popsicles because you may have trouble getting in liquids.

Plenty of Water because Protein may take a while to stay down so you need to stay hydrated.

GasX chewable tablets, even though I only used it twice, priceless!

Pillows to prop your head up so you're not laying totally flat.

I'm 5 days post op and they really helped me. Good luck!!!

Chrystal light lemonade powder, herbal tea, Protein powder Soup from unjury, a shaker container to make your shakes, non-fat milk to mix drinks when you are ready, a walking partner that will go around the block with you a couple times a day, comfortable clothes that don't hurt your inscision. Non fat yoguart, broth, and sometimes it helped to have a watch or clock near by so you won't drink before 45 mins or so after you eat. Good luck. The time goes by quickly. Drink your Protein first, and have some stuff to soften your stool. Constipation is waiting around the corner for all of us. Have your vits, Calcium and all that stuff ready to go when you get home so you don't have to go out for a couple of days. Take a shower daily, that makes you feel better too!

I agree with everything shared here. One additional thing that helped me, writing down all meds and the time they are to be taken. Between pain meds and the after effects of surgery, it can get confusing. I break up my normal pills into two pieces and take one piece at a time. I also write down my new Vitamins as well.

You don't need much, I bought new pjs, a bathrobe, slippers a stack of magazines etc and didn't use any of them. Now 5 months later I have given away all but the slippers. I didn't even get to read the magazines. I did use Protein Powder, a new water bottle, baby spoons and small plates and made sure my fridge was stocked with no calorie Popsicles and Jello etc as prescribed by my nutritionist. I was back to work in a week. Good luck and keep us informed!

In the hospital I was glad I packed a night mask (my roommate slept with here overhead light on) and ear phones (she also had visitors 12 hours a day). All the other suggestions I agree with as well.

Be careful on what you stock up on. What you can stand before surgery you might not like afterwards. It seemed for me that everything was disgustingly sweet. Still is. I'm able to eat more but things just don't taste the same as before surgery. Some artificial sweeteners became too yucky afterwards. Jello and pudding too sweet also. Be prepared to share a plate when going out or order the tasting plate when you are at that stage.

Enjoy every moment of weight loss. Even the painful moments. It's coming off finally after years. I get so excited every time I realize I have to buy a new set of jeans. I only buy one at a Time cause they get to big to fast lol.

sugar free popsies. Peppermint tea and gum will settle your stomach. Don't buy new fat clothes! You won't be able to wear them in a few weeks.

sugar free Popsicles, a variety of Proteins, Water bottle, pillows. In the hospital the only things I needed were lip balm and my phone/headphones.

I'm taking all of your advice now, but I have a question for you for when I go back to my desk job.

I'll have the shakes down pat, and unjury Soup. But I am trying to figure out what size jars to put food or liquids in that are heavy duty as I have them in the back of my car, on top of my Rollator, down an elevator, through the halls, into my office and other places in the beginning (buying one at a time, not much cash) to take to work.

I'm checking out www.thejarstore.com as I can't afford tupperware. I like the idea of glass jars because we do our dishes in the dishwasher and plastics/rubber seem to lose their seal over time as well as I like the tight fitting lids on jars. What size (I like the square ones) should I think of? I already have a Protein shaker.< /span>

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
