Would like some advice about what to tell work

Wow!! I had this same question! My end result was telling them that I was taking medical leave for surgery and recovery. No questions were asked yet. (This was 2 weeks ago nearly) I have had such negative comments before from friends, that I decided it was best to just not make it too public. People that don't know me well, don't know my history with illnesses, or the pain I have in my back or knees, so they don't understand.

I will tell the ones I feel most comfortable with, and if the word gets out, who cares! It's my body, my future! I am going to be happy!!!!

I'm usually quite honest and open about issues like this, so it will be suspicious if I don't tell them if they ask.
