2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

Recommended Posts

She also had iv zofran and a stronger one that knocked her out but didn't touch the nausea. Were in the ER right now. She was pretty much passed out on the floor after trying to shower. We spent 45 mins in the waiting room with her slumped over in a wheelchair. Unacceptable!

Having worked in an ER, I can tell you this is not uncommon. She was not in any breathing distress and she wasn't bleeding or dying. Unless her doctor called ahead and told the ER to expect her, she's gonna wait.

If you speak with her doctor and they say there's is nothing physically wrong with her, she's gonna have to start to help herself. That means at the very least taking the pain meds no matter how nasty they are. If she can't drink, try ice chips. Laying there doing nothing is going to make her dehydrated and ill. I realize people have different pain thresholds, and this is your baby, but she's got to help herself.

Thanks, yes, I'm pushing the fluids and having her get up every hour to walk around. She felt much better after the IV fluids and did OK yesterday on some liquids. I think this hit her harder than she expected and she didn't expect the extreme nausea to go on for so long.

She did also have some Fluid in her lungs and they gave her antibiotics. I'm sure that's adding to her feeling lousy too. Hopefully, she'll turn a corner soon.

If she had Fluid in her lungs, moving is very important. Also have her do a few exercises like she's lifting dumb bells a few time a day.

I didn't get my nausea under control in the first few days until my 4th anti-nausea medication and until I stopped the pain meds. That combination finally did the trick. Best wishes for your daughter, nausea is the worst of human sensations.

I had my surgery 1 April and I had the worst pain. I was regretting my WLS decision. My Dr. came by to check on me and I told him about the pain. He explained it was Gas. I was like Yeah Right. The nurse gave me some Gas-X and about 30 minutes it was gone. I was truly amazed that Gas could hurt so bad. Now if I drink to much Water I get that feeling back a little and then I start to think about when was the last dose of GasX. After I get the next dose, I'm good. I hope this helps.

Thanks, all! The nausea is starting to ease up, one week out. The nurse said that it just happens with some more than others and getting off the pain meds should help with the nausea some.

Oh my, I'm sorry she had to go through that...it will all be worth it in the end, reassure her that each day gets better. I haven't had my surgery yet but I have been in an active support group for a year and I've heard so many stories on this...as prepared as we think we are, we just can't prepare fully because we don't know how it will turn out. Prayer that she's feeling better fast!!!

So, she's 13 days post op and still the constant nausea. It has eased up from the severe state it was before but it is persistent though her whole day and enough to where she can still barely drink enough fluids. She's supposed to be on full liquids but is pretty much only able to drink Propel and Crystal LIght. She goes back to the surgeon tomorrow so we'll see what he says.

@@ssourgirl - I'm so sorry to hear she's still having trouble. Hopefully they can find something to help her with the nausea. At least she's staying hydrated.

Have yall thought or tried any Nausea Patches? I had one in the beginning and wore it the 1st 6 days.

I had terrible nausea in the hospital for 2 days. Was rotating Reglan & Zofran round the clock through the IV. I also had terrible pain & was getting Diludad & Tylenol frequently. I think that it is not explained how hard the post-op period can be. I had no idea that it could be so awful. I am feeling better now. Best wishes to your daughter. She will feel better soon, I'm sure.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
