ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 My daughter just had surgery on Thursday 3/26 and is having severe nausea to the point where she doesn't want to drink anything. She is also having alot of pain where her stomach is and says it feels like something is stuck in her esophagus like how a large pill feels when stuck. The pain and nausea are unbearable. Is this normal? Any advice?
sunflowerchild 146 Posted March 29, 2015 She needs to contact the doc as soon as possible and if she can't reach him go to the hospital. Extreme nausea and extreme pain is not normal.
ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 I've called the doctor twice today. They say just to make sure she drinks and called in an anti nausea prescription. They said its normal.
ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 But she's refusing to drink because it hurts too much.
Elode 8,093 Posted March 29, 2015 I had pretty bad pain the first day at home so they called me in a stronger pain pill which worked extremely well. You may want to ask. Hopefully that nausea medication is going to help her.
heftyhoosier 30 Posted March 29, 2015 I had really bad nausea and was given an anti nausea med. And was also on Percocet to dull the pain. If that's not doing it and the doc won't do anything (have you gotten the doc or the nurses?) go to the hospital...if it's truly that bad. No reason to get dehydrated and be in terrible pain. That's what I'd do if it was me.
ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks all, she's on hydrocodone at a pretty high dose but she didn't take it today because the liquid hurts going down. I talked to two surgeons on call, one was an ass but the second called in a different nausea meds. Hoping that will work. I've discovered how unbelievably stubborn she can be. If it persists like this I will take her to the ER.

ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 Thank you. She just tried to sip meds again and had severe pain and kind of a hiccup. Each time she tries, this happens.
JCP 619 Posted March 29, 2015 I didn't have nausea but had wicked pain. Drinking anything was a real effort. She needs to take her pain meds, rest, try to move around the best she can a few times a day, and do her best on hydration. Some people really suffer at first. Once I reached two weeks, things got much better.
ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks JCP it's nice to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Her liquid hydrocodone really burns. I tasted a little bit and can understand. Did you guys have liquid pain meds?
agalindo17 331 Posted March 29, 2015 I did and it did not taste good I can handle the pill better see if she can walk as much as she can it helps a lot with pain!! Hope she gets better
desertgirl_74 114 Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) Is it possible it's the pain med adding to it? I'm not scheduled for a couple more weeks, but I cannot take anything with hydrocodone. It makes me very nauseous now, so I doubt it will be doable after I'm sleeved. Edited March 29, 2015 by desertgirl_74
ssourgirl 151 Posted March 29, 2015 She went without pain meds last night, still not drinking much at all. She has taken them before and hasn't had the nausea like this. This is barf bag to her face pretty much all day kind of nausea.
giggleblue 64 Posted March 29, 2015 (edited) They have suppository pain and nausea meds. Can they order that if she can't swallow? Edited March 29, 2015 by giggleblue
