Hi to All:

I now have officially joined the group! I was banded on 10-21, in Mexico, by Dr. Ortiz. What a class act! From the moment we were picked up at the airport, till our trip back home, we were treated first class all the way. We were totally impressed with Dr. Ortiz and his team. I would highly recommend them to all.

I am tired, but feeling good. I have bloating, tenderness, and of course GAS! I am walking around the house to help with that problem. I am drinking my fluids, but feel so full all the time, that it is hard to get all of it down. It still is uncomfortable to lay on my side, where the port is, and can't lay on my stomach yet. But I have to remember that this is only day 4 of post-op.

Looking forward to the soft food stage!

Ciao (chow)

Sharon

Sharon.

Che cosi fai??

It gets better everyday. We all react differently but seems your doing great. I wa able to sleep on my side(with the port) the first nite home.

Normally the fluids slid thru faster then what you get to the soft food part. If your having trouble getting it all down just stop when you feel that your getting full. wait half hour or so and finish. Your stoamch is reacting to the surgery so the stoma will have swelling which can cause a bit more restriction then intended. Just be careful and it does get better and oopens a little as the swelling goes down.

The gas was the only part of surgery I had trouble with but I even got lucky there. I had discomfort the nite of surgery from it but by 6am the next moring the surgery gas was gone. Won;t get into what type of gas replaced it but per my Dr that is normal. Try convincing the wife LOL.

Good luck and keep us posted

Greg

Congratulations Sharon and Melissa... It sounds like both of you are doing very well. I was completely out of it for at least a week with my first surgery.

I hope you both continue to bounce back quickly.

Good luck!

It took about 3 days before I could tolerate lying on my port side, and 3 weeks before I could lay on my tummy. By week 4 I'm completely intact, and feeling pretty good. My loss has slowed considerably, as expected, around 1 to 2 pounds a week. But my inches... where in the heck are THEY going? I'm down 2 sizes already, but the weight isn't dropping that fast, and I'm not doing an excess of exercise... I like this trend for sure!

Good Luck to you. I was exactly like you, felt so full it was hard to take a couple of drinks of anything. Now that the swelling has gone down, I can drink normal. Each day gets a little better. Keep us posted.

Hi Sharon

Congratulations!

I'm so happy to hear that your experience with Dr. Ortiz was great! I have to agree with you he does have run a class act of an operation especially now that he has an entire new office staff and has expanded his office space. He was good before but now Gabrielle has that place running like a well oiled machine! Happy to hear you are home safe and sound. Each day will get better and better as the gas goes away. Everything that you are feeling is totally normal so Take it easy & rest up..you need to heal ...do not over do it.

Sharon, welcome to Bandland! Now, that's what we like to hear... a great success story! Take care of yourself, drink that Water, follow your dr's post-op rules, walk as much as you comfortably can and you'll get better every day. You'll be back out in your beautiful garden before you know it!

Pam you and I are in the exact same boat, we were even banded on the same day!! My weight is stablizing but my lord my body is changing and I am loving it, dont you? Now if we can just excercize more think what that would do!!!

Sharon, CONGRATS on your banding...honestly I know it sucks right now but your doing great and once you get to mushies it will fly by and you'll be right on track! Take care and welcome aboard!

Thank you all for your encouraging messages. This is day 5 post-op and I am feeling really good, drinking a little more today, and hopefully even more tomorrow! Have not been on the scales yet, going to wait till Thursday, 1 week.

Buongiorno, Sharon. . . and congratulations! Weighing yourself just once a week is a great idea. There's a "weekly scale challenge" thread here that you might want to check out. Meanwhile, I'm glad you're feeling good. You'll feel better each day!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
