Hi! Got banded on May 22. I lost 10 lbs the first week while on liquids. The next week I started on some soft food and started gaining back some weight. Is this normal? I am a little disappointed.

Yes, you are still in the healing process....My doctor said not to worry about weight loss for the first month....you are still swollen on the inside and you are healing....Some say you don't lose until the first fill, some don't lose until after the 3rd fill....each person is different....it has only been two weeks and five days...you are probably eating mushie foods right now, just don't eat more than you are supposed to....I was told not to eat more than a half a cup....and that is all I eat...I eat three times a day, no in between eating and I eat no sweets... I try to drink as much Water as possible, and I am trying to exercise....but at two weeks almost three weeks out you might not even be up to exercising , yet... Just hang in there....you will lose....and my advice to you, don't weigh yourself everyday....I only weigh a couple of times a week...I don't want to get crazy over the numbers.....I stick to the plan and try my best to make good choices, but I am not going to weigh every single day....

Thanks so much. You gave me some great tips. I feel a little better now. I have been reading some of these threads and was beginning to think this might not be working. I just have to learn to have patience. the only thing I am a little worried about is the excercise I have a bad back and it is hard to even walk more than about 15 minutes. Will I still loose if I don't excercise as much?

I was banded on the 23rd and my weight has fluctuated 4 lbs or so back and forth and I really havent lost much in the last week. I started back to the gym and that seems to be helping. Until you have restriction in your band again you may not see much weight loss if you go back to your old eating ways. Which is EASY to do! Just concentrate on healing right now and the weight loss will come with time.

We usually lose in the beginning as we are taking in fluids only. When you start on mushies and solids, it is not unusual to see some gain. As others have posted, it is important to eat small amounts, give your body time to heal, and get good support from somewhere. This site is excellent to stay in touch with fellow "banders" and get good tips.

As far as the back pain, I too suffered alot. Soon as I started losing weight, I noticed I was able to do more exercise. Every little bit helps toward your goal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
