What vitamins do you take?

Recommended Posts

I need to purchase Vitamins, and the only ones that my NUT recommended all had the word bariatric in them which I kinda feels like is a way to make them cost more.

So, what Vitamin brands do you use?

Just regular Vitamins. My multi is by KIND, by Calcium, B12, D3 are by Nature's Bounty. I don't have trouble swallowing pills so I didn't need chewable.< /p>

I take a women's generic one a day morning and night along with an extra B12, D3, Biotin and a probiotic. Once per day I take a time release calcuim citrate. I was taking a slow fe one per day (mid day with no other supplements as Calcium can affect absorption), but I've gone a little anemic (just not absorbing as much as I should) so recently purchased a chewable Iron with C (which aids in absorption) I'll take twice a day to try and bring up my iron sat. I get my Vitamins at Walmart or Vitamin Shoppe, (for the probiotic and iron).

I take a Multivitamin with minerals, b-12, super b-complex, Calcium w Vitamin D, Biotin, iorn and folic acid. I just recently got some bariatric ones but I don't like them. I like good ole Vitamins that I get from Vitacost! I don't need chewables anymore but my favorite multi is and its pineapple flavored! I can't think of the name right now but it's probably the only pineapple flavored on their website.

I got all of mine at CVS. They have great BOGO sales. chewables and gummies. You can compare the ingredients from the Bariatric Vitamins to store brands. As long as you are getting the minimum recommended (per surgeon) amount (1,000mcg b12/1,500mg Calcium, etc) you should be fine.

I thought you had to take chewables otherwise they don't get absorbed properly and was told gummies were a no no since they could get stuck. Those chewables are nasty.

Doctor's vary on this. I as told chewable or crushed for all large pills for the first 3 months in part to make sure that they are properly absorbed while your new tummy is healing, but also to make sure you can get the, down. I was told no to gummies because they are not complete. Other programs are okay with gummies and allow pats to swallow all pills from day 1.

I take Twinlab bariatric support chewable Vitamin taste like a kids flinestone Vitamin, I take chewable Calcium with Vitamin D and a liquid Iron pill. I get a vitamin b-12 shot from my doctor since I go to him every week. Thats about it. I wasn't taken any the first month and I paid for it. My anemia for sooo bad I was super lighted and freezing all the time. Still cold but the dizzy spells had kinda gone away.

Each surgeon varies on chewable/gummies. Mine was fine with gummies. My 3 month blood work was all within normal ranges.

I take two Flintstones Complete a day (chewable) and one Nature Made Biotin just because my hair is shedding big time and whatever may help..yay!

I also take 3 500mg. calcium citrate chews and a B-12 sublingual a day that I purchase from Bariatric Advantage. I'm willing to pay a little more for the Bariatric Advantage Calcium because the calcium chews are like candy and fill that void. The sublingual B-12 is minty and easy so I stick with that too.

I am taking the bariatric - Celebrate Multi-Vitamin with Iron ($22 - 60ct). 2 chewable tablets daily. They come in orange or berry flavor. Not too bad. I also just started taking liquid calcium citrate blueberry flavor. I got this from Vitamin shoppe and it's $13 for 15 day supply. I have to drink 25 ml daily to get in my 1000mg of Calcium a day.

I'm looking for a cheaper alternative, but for right now I am satisfied with the multi-vitamin. Any suggestions for the calcium citrate, I'm all ears? I'm 3 weeks post-op. At my doctor apt yesterday, they don't recommend the calcium chewables until 6 months post op. Let me know what your doctor's recommend.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
