Ok, had my sleeve surgery on the 24th. Doctor said he repaired a pretty big hiatal hernia. What I'm having in my chest area is not exactly pain...it's hard to describe. It's an uncomfortable feeling....like I have to burp really bad but don't. It happens every few seconds then goes away and comes back again and goes away, etc. It's right under my breast bone center of my chest. What the heck is that?

I had similar issues after surgery this last week. Once I was getting Pepcid and Protonix it went away.

Good luck.

@vickiecat I had the same surgery on the 24th. I am finding that most of my pain and discomfort seems to be coming from the hernia sites. Your description nailed it. It's like gas but not. I have a lot is "pressure" in that area. I'm trying to get some milked down cream of wheat into me but my stomach sounds crazy lol

It's probably still just gas moving around. It will likely stop in the days to come. Try chewing a couple of Tums if you aren't already on an acid reducer.

Don't be surprised if you continue to have episodes of belching, hiccuping, gurgling in belly, etc. This is fairly normal and to be expected, and will probably continue for months to come.

Good luck on your journey!

Gas-X Strips and Mintox Anitgas/Antacid (At Costco) were a godsend for me. My hiatal hernia was graded a 4 1/2. It will get better over time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
