Remember everyone loses at a different rate. My surgeon emphasized not weighing everyday and not comparing my loss to others. Also the less you have to lose the slower it may come off. Give yourself time

I can't stress enough to STAY OFF THE scale. I only weighed about 6 times in the first 3 months. The NSVs are way more important than numbers. But if you want to compare, here's my numbers....

0 pounds lost at 11 days

17 pounds at 7 weeks

30 pounds at 3 months.

I've read so many posts about people whining over losing way more than that. It astounds me because I was thrilled and encouraged by every single pound I lost along the way, no matter how fast or slow. Of course dropping pant sizes and being out of pain and crossing my legs and my rings actually becoming too big we're all way more exciting.

I still surpassed my surgeon's goal by over 20 pounds and my personal goal by over 10 pounds. And no matter what your rate of loss, if you are eating healthy then you are not failing. My plan was very simple.....60-80g Protein everyday. Minimum 64oz Water everyday. Vitamins everyday. Plenty of veggies as I could eat them, a little bit of fruit. Stayed away from white carbs (pasta, bread, rice, crackers, alcohol, sweets) until I was within 10 pounds of goal.

@@kndoster Kindle is right. Stay off the scale! I would also recommend keeping the carbs low. The most current research does not support a very low fat diet. That doesn't mean go crazy, but honestly at 600 or so calories per day, just how much fat can you have? Perhaps a talk with the dietitian might be a good idea to help figure out the best food choices. Dietitians are usually (not always) pretty sharp and can really help.

I would suggest celebrating your victories and hard work towards becoming a healthier you! Good luck and keep up the great work!

If you do have that talk with the dietitian, make it count. Ask her to be specific. Don't allow her to overwhelm you with handouts without you understanding what she is telling you.

I didn't read all the comments but any loss is celebration!! just thought I'd share what helped me..protein 1st, drinking my fluids staying hydrated, I know everyone's differant I was 4 or so months out before I even ate any fruit bc of the sugar/carb content any sugar slows down the loss..that's how it affects me even before surgery I don't even do natural fruit juices but very seldom when I do its very little, my diet guidelines were no breads, pastas, white rice. crackers, potatoes, starchy veggies till I reach goal and I am 8 months out I figure I have a few more months before I add a little of something like these. the less sugar or even artificial sweetner the better I do. I use stevia as my sweetner or a little raw sugar. I was even out to 4 months still doing the pure Protein Shakes or chike my tummy was very sensitive for the longest time even eating a scrambled egg I did good to get 2 or 3 bites in at 1 seating. I do eat healthy full fat , I eat the regular cottage cheese and I think the kroger carbmaster or something like that yogurt is the only thing I eat that has an artifical sweetner other then the plain chobani yogurt, I always eat my Proteins first then I'll fill in with a green Beans or roasted brocolli or grilled zuchinni as my veggies with lunch or dinner when I end up not drinking a shake. I do meals moslty. just don't beat yourself up! any weight loss is success!! hang in there! just wanted to share whats helped me don't compare yourself with others :)

I understand exactly how you feel! I am super slow at losing weight too. My doc says I am an inches girl instead of a pound girl (not that it makes me feel any better, lol, especially when I see people in my group dropping weight like crazy!) You and I have very similar stats. I was SW 235 DOS 229 CW 205.2. I have been at 205.2 for 2 weeks now and it is very disappointing. However, I have gone down two pants sizes (started at an 18 and am now in a 14 this week) so I know I am losing. I seem to be losing it all in my bottom half, lol.

I think it is true that the more weight you have to lose, the faster it comes off.

I would love to stay in contact with you since we are so similar, if you like, and just see how we progress.

You are doing fine! You are only about 100 pounds over your typical weight. So, you will not lose as fast or as much as some of us. It is all proportional. I am over 240 pounds overweight. I lost 24 pounds just from th surgery. You should be patient and not expect it to all come off at once. I am planning at least 18 to 24 months. I have already lost 70 pounds in 3 1/2 months. I know at some point it will slow down and I will have to change things.

it sounds like you are also going through some mental / hormonal changes as well. Talk to your Psycologist! Go to support sessions. WLS can alter the hormones in your stomach and your entire system. Don't listen to nay-sayers. Don't focus on people who discourage you.

Keep doing what the Doctors tell you and follow your plan book, if you have one. Get your protien and Water in. That is a BIG key to weight loss.

Keep in touch. You have plenty of support hear.

@@kndoster, Sorry to hear you are disappointed…but you shouldn’t be! You’ve been losing 3 lbs per week. At that rate, you’ll hit your goal weight of 130 in 6 months. That would be incredible! How long have you struggled with obesity? And to possibly hit goal weight in six months?? You’d look back at this post and laugh at yourself!

You can’t compare your own weight loss speed to others’. Everyone’s body is different. Plus, you’re smaller than a lot of other WLS patients, so your weight may come off more slowly. The only thing you can do is be super honest with yourself when you count calories and do your exercise. Don’t worry about low-fat versus low-carb as long as you’re getting in your Protein. As long as the calories are low, you’ll lose weight…like you are.

As for your mom, don’t let her “disappointment” affect you. You’re doing great!

  • kndoster you are right on course. I had my surgery Jan, 6 Pre op 242 , Day of surgery 236 today 202. It is 40 lbs off and going down for me. My nurse told me ahead of time, that because I did not need to lose 100lbs. or more, that I would not lose as fast as others and to expect 10 lbs a month off. So I have done a little better than that. I didn't weigh for 3 weeks and then weighed and had lost 9 lbs in three weeks. I am happy with that and do not expect to lose as fast as others that have a much higher starting weight.
  • It looks like you and I are close to the same weight right now and I want to shout out to you, your on course. GOING DOWN in size. I will put a picture up next week , my face is thinner and not swollen and puffy as it is in this photo.
I have had stalls during this, but then weight lose starts back. Your on track

Trust me on this. Go to the store grab one bag of 10 lbs potatoes and a 5 lbs of potatoes. Carry them for a half hour or so. Get back to me on how it makes you feel.

In my 4 years of weight watchers meetings, we have come to a conclusion (not scientific, lol). If you didn't see this week's work on the scale, you will see it the following week. You just have to stay the course. I know it's easy to flustered and frustrated, but just keep to it. 3 lb a week is amazing, I loved it when I had big weeks like that, because they are BIG!!!

I will know more once I am on the other side in May. ????

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
