I tried a protein shake for the first time with skim milk - allergic reaction

Recommended Posts

My face became red and I was burning up (it subsided after about an hour). I HATE Isopure. Any suggestions on how to get Protein if I'm going to have allergic reaction?

Have you tried any other brands? I like and have been living off of Premier Protein shakes (already mixed). The chocolate is my favorite followed by vanilla. I buy them from costco.

What types or Protein drinks have you tried?

I've only had the Isopure unflavored. It's 100% whey isolate and nothing esle. If it's a flavored kind, it could be anything from the flavorings to the type of sweetener in it. It could also be a reaction to the combinations of skim milk plus the Protein powder.

Changing Protein powders could help, but you would need to figure out what ingredients you reacted to.

Other sources are protein would be greek yogurt, kefir, hummus, cheeses, eggs, dark green veg.

If you are still on full or all liquids you would could puree and thin some chicken until it was broth like consistancy.

If Isopure is the only Protein Powder you have tried, try a few others. Try mixing with Water instead of milk. Try some RTD brands instead. Try protein waters, or liquid Protein. Just make note of the ingredients so you can monitor weter it's a true allergic reaction or just something that didn't agree with you.

Try almond milk or soy milk. I personally just make mine with Water and have gotten used to the taste that way.

Try looking for soy Protein powders. Medifast is made from soy and has multiple flavors. I have a lot of left overs from doing that plan and even though it isnt as much protein in one drink (its closer to 12 grams per serving) at least its a liquid protein u can make with Water.< /p>

If you go for soy, look for soy isolates, not concentrates. Isolates are better since the protein concentration tends to be higher.

Well It depends on what your having a allergic reaction to, you need to know that first. I'm a Premier Protein girl myself (chocolate)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
