What Protein shakes taste best?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I was wondering what does everyone consider the best Protein Shakes to be? I'm a little over a year out of RnY but I still have problems getting enough Protein through food alone so I tend to use protein shakes on days when I'm not close to hitting the 90 grams my doctor recommends. I'm getting really burnt out on the ones that I've been using and would love some advice/ other options.

My favorites are the Syntrax Nectars, especially Capuccino, vanilla Bean and Roadside Lemonade. They have a lot of other flavors to choose from, too. This website lets you order individual sample packets of tons of different brands and flavors so you can find which one(s) work best for you. http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-powders/protein-powder-samples-1-serving.html

That's so funny I was just looking on the Vitamin Shoppe website at those wondering if they were good. Thanks :)

I bought samples of all the flavors except tea, which I've heard is great - I just don't care much for tea. I've only tried 6 or 7 of the flavors so far, liked some more than others, but they're such a nice change from the normal vanilla, chocolate, etc. shakes. They've all been good.

Thats so good, I'm going to try some out. I'm so burnt out on chocolate, vanilla, etc. That sounds like a good change

I like premier Protein (strawberry) for on the go. They have a resealable cap, which is nice because I imagine once I've had my RNY i won't be able to drink them as quickly as I can now.

I've tried the Syntrax Carribean Cooler. Tastes like a pina colada without the alcohol.

I also really like Quest vanilla Protein powder. It's a thicker consistency than most Protein shakes. It's great for cooking. If you blend it with Water and ice, it's very much like an actual milkshake.

I like Cellucor whey protein. My favorite is Red Velvet Cake Batter. I've also had s'mores (yum), Peanut Butter marshmallow (bland), and CorFetti (their protein version of Funfetti cake mix, it's super super sweet I couldn't handle much of it.)

I also like Isopure RTD in Alpine Punch and Coconut.

Thanks I haven't tried Cellucor. I may have to give that a try. You're right about the resealable cap. They were a big help to me especially those first few months after surgery. Even now after a year, it takes me a long time to drink stuff. I'd say over an hour to finish 8 ounces.

Premier Protein, I like the vanilla and chocolate. Drink one of both every day. I can only find them at Sam's in Oklahoma.

Has anyone ever tried Pure Protein?

I haven't but I think the Vitamin Shoppe has the sample packs so you can try it without investing too much money. They had the Syntrax Nectar samples so I tried several of them and found some that I really like, so now I'm going to go buy a large container of either the fuzzy navel or the pink grapefruit.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
