I realized that too, when this current season of the Amazing Race started. I was so disappointed, because I always really wanted to go on that show! It's the only reality TV show I would ever consider going on.

On the one hand, I can't do the eating challenges now, but on the other hand, no way could my former 244 lb. self tackle any of the physical challenges or keep up with the other teams. So no TAR for me either way.

ETA: TAR is one of my all time favorite shows.

I will never be able to do The Amazing Race.

Those eating challenges.

Oh, the regret I feel right now....

So im not the only person that has thought that..... I love the race and dream of going on there...

Who knew so many of us secretly dreamed of going on TAR at some point?!?!

Maybe you could propose an all WLS season and instead of eating challenges they could plan some other WLS specific challenges.

On The Amazing Race you get to do a lot of those things and the show foots the bill! Survivor on the other hand... I have NO IDEA why anyone goes on that show. Why would you subject yourself to 30+ days of starvation and misery for like a 1 in 20 chance of winning $1 million? On the Amazing Race all the travel and getting to see the world and do cool things is a prize in itself and the $1 million is just a bonus if you happen to win!

On the bright side, we could handle the food deprivation on Survivor a lot better than the people that haven't had WLS. Seriously, who's watched Survivor and secretly thought it would be a great diet plan???

@RJ'S/beginning I have swam with dolphins and it was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever had. I plan to ride a horse on the beach this December in Hawaii but probably more like a gelding vs a stallion. LOL Stallion does sound cooler.

Survivor would be terrible for WLS folks. Protein is extremely scarce and all they have regularly is a little rice. From what I can tell they all gain the weight back, plus (just like any other diet).

My question has always been: who in the world goes on Survivor or the Amazing Race without knowing how to swim (or drive a stick shift for TAR) and expects to be successful?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
