Can't tell if I'm still a big sack of crap, or have legitimate asthma

Recommended Posts

Went hiking for the first time since surgery today and it kicked my butt. I huffed and puffed and prayed for death at least twice. This was on an 'easy' trail that a cute elderly pair and their dog was also walking. I honestly thought it would be a breeze, I've lost a bit of weight and have been doing pretty consistent cardio with my workout videos - no issue with that. Outside I can't breathe, feels like I'm breathing through a straw. Maybe I just need to train more...

Well "big sack of crap" doesn't sound right so it must be something else! :)

I didn't realize I had asthma for years and talked to a dr about my symptoms and they were like... you have asthma. lol So anyway, since then I just take a daily inhaler and it's made my life much better. Maybe next time you are in to see your PCP talk to them. =)

Where do you live? I'm in Florida and I can tell you our pollen counts are astronomical right now. And if you have the slightest allergies it can set normally unaffected people into hayfever, wheezing, sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes the works. I have a gray truck that is nearly yellow from all the oak pollen. But either way, shortness of breath should be checked out.

@ShellMilliner I'm in Florida too, it's miserable for those of us who suffer from allergies here right now. My car is blue and I walk outside and it's covered in a thick blanket of yellow in just a few hours after washing it.

Ah, okay. I know my surgeon Dr. Jawad has an office in Ocala as well as Orlando, that's why I asked.

I know I has that same problem with exercise and walking after surgery. The doctor said it was due to the weight loss and having to carry all the "extra" skin... I felt like I wanted to collapse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
