15 days out and haven't had that "full" feeling...what's wrong that I don't feel full yet?

Recommended Posts

Surgery was on March 10th and for the first 2 weeks I was on thin liquids (Protein shakes, broth, Water, Soup etc...). Yesterday I was able to start pureed food, between 1/2- 1 cup of food. Have been eating cottage cheese, pureed turkey chili, hummus, sugar free ice pops but I haven't yet had that full or "knowing when to stop" feeling that everyone talks about. This is scaring me because I feel as if I could eat more. Is this normal? Will I ever get that "full" feeling everyone talks about after this surgery. Don't want to overeat so please any advice would be great.

You should get the feeling as you progress to more solid foods. However in the meantime keep you portions to ½ -1 cup unless your nutritionist says otherwise.

@@nycchef76 Wow, you can eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food? I am 4 weeks post-op and I still cannot finish a whole scrambled egg! I started pureed on March 11 and soft foods yesterday.

I wouldn't try to "test" that limit. Be careful...

Oh, also, I don't want to eat until I feel full. I hear bad things happen...

I saw some previous posts from others that if they were still hungry on the "puréed" , their nutritionist let them start earlier on soft foods. I was allowed soft foods 8 days post-op but that was my normal plan. And every meal is different, some I can eat a good 4 oz and some I can only get a few bites and I'm full

Okay, I was told by my med team that it is easier to get down larger quantities of full liquids, yogurts, etc because they are prescribed so to speak for the healing stage. They are slider foods. When I started my solids a week ago I had the same concern as you. I was told to eat solid Proteins ( meat) with every meal first and I would not be able to get in much more than a half a cup. I complied with excellent results. Started to immediately fill restriction... Meantime just follow your doctors orders with whatever stage you are in. Measure your foods and you will do great! Go progressively thru each of your stages.

@@BlueSky when were you sleeved? What/how much and how often were you eating during the pureed stage?

I was sleeved about a month before you on Feb 9. I was allowed 2 to 3 meals a day on pureed with 2 power ups between. (1-2 oz of poultry, fish, pork, etc). I stuck to that for two weeks. . Did notice tuna filled me up more than Soups, etc. I did yogurt or cottage cheese for Snacks. -- So I would do a shake or yogurt for breakfast; a cottage cheese/ fruit for snack; tuna /chicken salad or blended ham for lunch; string cheese snack; and chili or some meaty Soup for dinner. Not that this is recommended, I would slip in a cracker or 2 somewhere because they melt and slide down okay and helped me feel satisfied. If I went to a restaurant in evenings (i spend a lot of time in hotels) I would get creamed spinach or a soft casserole dish like at Boston market to accompany my blended chicken. Dark meat worked best for me. Again the tip of the cornbread helped me fill full. ( my docs plan allows minimal carbs last, but most on here don't recommend them at all during this first phase). So far so good. Had a stall but pushed through. I was told I was right on schedule by my doctors office and got the all clear for regular foods and exercise last week. Hope this helps and sending positive thoughts your way!

I felt the same way. However when I moved to solid food I finally got the full feeling.

At my 2-week appointment I asked the doc about this and he told me that hunger is usually thirst in disguise. Are you getting enough fluids? Once all the internal swelling has all gone down, you'll get a better feel for what to expect.

I'm confused, you say the weight is coming off slowly so why are you asking when does the weight come off? Everyone loses at a difference pace, you may just be a slow loser.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
