Fills and where does it go, cross post

Recommended Posts

I have read a few posts about the saline and where does it go so...

The tube and the tube in the band are all one long tube. If 1cc goes in the port it is all throughout the entire band. Not just the small part that goes around the band.

So a fill of 1.5cc is always in the whole tube not just the diameter of the band. The fill size is talking about the whole tube.

Thanks for your info. But I have a question. How much of the first fill I will be receiving (1cc) will end up being in the part of the tube that is not around the band and therefore won't really have anything to do with my restriction?

The entire band, including the little line to the port holds 4 cc's. I think we have to stop thinking about what part of the amount of Fluid that's in the band is directly restricting us. My doc demonstrated when fluid was in and when fluid was out of the band, the point is, it is restricting. The doc is not measuring the amount directly around the stomach versus the amount that leads to the port; they measure how much is in the total band. And I don't think anyone, except maybe the specs from BioEnterics (if you have the Lapband system), can tell you how much fluid is specifically in the port line (probably not that much).

All bands work the same way. When we get 1 cc it allows the whole tube to fill up alitte tighter. This will make the part that is around our stomachs to fill tighter also. Plump up a little thus making the stoma a little amaller. All we need is 1 cc the fisrt time then .5cc each time after that to make a difference.

Most people can notice a difference with a fill. So the fill amount is talking about the whole tube.

Every doc is different though with the fills. My first fill was 1.75 cc's and my second was .5 cc's and that was too tight. Then he took it back .25 cc's and now I have 2 cc's in the band. My doc told me that some adjustments may only be .1 to .2 cc's and some may be .5 to .75 depending on where you are in your process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
