So I am a year out from surgery and I have been having the HARDEST time with carbs! I still crave them and I still want them all. the. time. I am starting to have a problem getting in all of my Protein because all I want is carbs. Does anyone have any sound advice as to how to get my mouth (and head) out of carbs and dig into the protein? I want to do the right thing, I want to succeed at this and right now I am scared to death of failing. I have 30 more pounds to lose to get to goal and they seem like they are going to be impossible to lose if I don't straighten out.

That's a mind willpower adjustment. You just have to do it. Throw away all the junk in your house and replace it with Protein handy foods. Find some good recipes and try them out. Make it fun. Good luck!

For me, the best way to not crave them is to not have them at all. I find if I have some bread, I really crave carbs and sugar for the next few days while I'm "detoxing" back off of them. Once I'm past a couple days, I'm good again. Constant struggle! That's why I stay away from simple carbs completely for the most part :) Good Luck!

While in weight loss mode I have to cut carbs. If I eat them the scale does not move. A good carb exchange for me is Jerky (not sure why) It might be the salt and my head still thinks of it as a snack food...Anyhooo. That is how my messed up food mind works

@ Sometimes it's not a fear of failure, it is the fear of success. You are so close to your goal. Keep away from your "trigger" foods. Eat more Protein and drink more Water so you won't have time or space for the carbs!

Don't look back. Move ahead!

I agree with others that the best way to manage carbs is to avoid them completely. The good news is that, if you're not consuming any (non green veggie or dairy) carbs, you don't have to worry about fat and calories. At least that's how it works for me. I can eat all the cheese, salami, Jerky, nuts, yogurt I want, and still maintain or lose. Get the carbs out of sight, detox your body, and treat this like you just had the surgery. You might even try 2 days of liquid, 2 days of soft, and 2 days of semi-hard foods to "reset" your sleeve/pouch/band. Good luck!!

Think detox, like @@Rogofulm said! If I start with a tiny piece of chocolate or bread, I swear I want another before the first one is even finished. Darn I hate that! I also find that since i crave chocolate more than most, using a half a Quest bar (very low carb) in one of my favorite choc flavors really helps. Full flavor without being overly sweet to my tasting.

The Nut suggested eating your protein first (say 3oz-4oz chicken) then have your carbs. You may find you only have room for a bite?? You've lost 98lbs!!!! Congrats. There are so many theories as to what is the right thing to do, avoid it all together, Portion Control etc.... Only you can solve that answer. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! I really needed to hear a lot of what you all had to say and it helps a lot. Banishing carbs from my house is not going to be the easiest though because my husband loves them too (I think he could live off of them and them alone if he could). I am going to talk to him about it tonight though and see what he has to say. I know he REALLY wants me to succeed, just as much as I want to so hopefully it well.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
