Hey there,

Question, does anyone have any testimonials regarding PCOS improving or being cured after WLS?

One of the reasons i had my vgs is because i read so many studies about how is something like 99% effective in alleviating pcos/ syndrome x symptoms. All i know is 5 days after my sleeve i started a period after not having one for 4 years.

I'm almost 5 months post op and I'm down 96 lbs from my highest weight. I'm only 34 lbs from my ultimate goal weight. Despite my Mirena IUD, I've been ovulating multiple times a month and have had quite a few periods. My facial hair hasn't changed much and my head hair has been falling out but my blood pressure and blood work is all perfect!! Hopefully the picture below will encourage you!

I'm 5'7. My highest weight was 290 (I could have reached 300 but avoided the scales because I didn't want to face the truth) and I was 261 when I decided to have surgery. I'm 194 now.

Thank you! This was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I would do it all over again. :-)

I am almost one year out from surgery and have PCOS. In fact, PCOS was the only comorbidity that qualified me for surgery since my BMI was 38. WLS does not "cure" PCOS as it never fully goes away. It can help elevate some of the embarrassing and frustrating symptoms of PCOS. Excess hormones are stored in fat, so as you drop weight, your estrogen and testosterone levels typically become more balanced. I know I was worried how my PCOS would impact my ability to lose weight since it made losing/maintaining weight difficult before. While I was a somewhat slow loser compared to others on this board, I think most of that was due to starting at a lower BMI. I am 5'7" and was 241 at my highest. 226 the day of surgery and I weighed 150.7 this morning. Best thing I ever did!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
