The Optifast is going as well as it can. I think I prefer the vanilla one. I have been mixing some Nestle Nesfruta into the mix and it makes the shakes taste much better.

I have to say that I am still feeling hungry and light headed all day. I drink LOTS of Water but still feel hungry. I usually have a Jello at lunch and a cup of chicken broth for dinner. I have to contact the WMC and ask the dietician how many Jello cups and broth I am allowed cause I think I might want a bit more.

The other thing is ........ constipation! Yikes.....it has never been a problem for me but now, its not good. I was taking one Metamucil capsule with every shake for the first 2 days and it is not working. I started taking 2 capsules with every shake today. This is my 3rd day!!

I have a dinner date with a friend tomorrow and decided not to cancel. It might prove to be difficult to sit there while people are eating but I believe that I must to this and be strong.

@tintin. I agree. Eating out with friends is really hard to do. But you still need to see friends. I found drinking my shake on the way to an evening out helped. I went to the movies with friends while on shakes and it was hard but I did it. Even post surgery it is not easy to go out to dinner with people at least early on.

And Constipation is your enemy.. Both before and after surgery. I never had a problem with it before, but now oh my.

That all being said, things are still better. I have more energy. I don't sleep as long or feel as tired. And it's almost time to go shopping for a new outfit or two. Life isn't easy post surgery. But it is worth it. No buyers remorse yet! ????

@@Tintin my poop issue was at the other end of the spectrum. I worked up to 6 capsules with each shake and it helped a bit. Good luck sorting out your bowls, definitely not an enjoyable aspect.

I also found having a shake on my way to dinner with people helped. As did having sf gum on hand. I met a friend for pho and orderd a bowl of broth at one point!

It is soooo nice to be able to "bounce" ideas to that are going (or have gone) through the same thing. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I wish the Ottawa Hospital WMC had a social network that people could meet and exchange ideas, stories, etc...

I agree tintin I've heard great things about the in person post op support group but I think it could potentially be beneficial to some pre op folks to be able to sit in and get advice.

Great job in creating our own micro group to do just that!

I for one am 'enjoying' the snow from my window at the hospital between my thrilling schedule of trying to pee and walking!

It is nice to have other people to talk to that are going thru the same things we each are. And just because the WMC doesn't have much for a support system in person, doesn't mean we can't suggest or start one. ????

@jmco when did you start taking the Vitamins post op? I wasn't able to get clear instructions from anyone at the hospital, in hospital I got them in liquid form. I assume it's ok to start taking my chewable Multivitamin and calciums....

@kcadoret. I started my Vitamins as soon as I got home. They do give liquid in hospital. I couldn't find a liquid multivitamin. The Wellesse Calcium actually tastes decent though. I suggest a weekly pill box for vitamins and any medication.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
