Hi everyone,

I lurk on this site once in a while, but I have not posted much. I was wondering if anyone out there decided to have skin removal surgery after his or her weight loss. Why or why not?

If you did have the surgery ... did your insurance cover it? was it painful? what was the recuperation time for you?

Thanks :-).

I will respond kar.....

You may find a lot of plastics stories on this site...

I had a TT w/ plication 2 weeks ago yesterday. After 8 years of being where I need to be weight wise after surgery. I considered it a luxury????

It was not for the faint of heart. But does get way better after about 10 days

Haven't seen this flat of a stomach since my 20's. Pre babies. I feel better and my clothes fit well

At 60 ... I wasn't looking for sexy????

(My insurance did not cover it)

I have been approved for panniculectomy. It is covered by my provincial health care plan here in Alberta. So it won't cost me anything. Don't have a date yet though. I too am interested in people's experiences with plastics.

I plan on it. I have not had kids yet so I will wait. 2 birds one stone lol. But for right now it's something I can cover up for the most part, some extra skin and definitely still some fat on my lower abdomen. I'm not done losing so unsure of how much will actually be skin later. But I am most definitely getting a breast lift! LAWD!!!

Hey Julie - Thanks for the input. It is funny. I didn't even think about the clothes fitting part until I read your post and thought, oh no ... I would have to buy new clothes again :-). Eight years a long time. Congratulations on keeping the weight off. Why did you wait for the surgery?

That is great that it is being covered by insurance. Good luck!

It is interesting that you are planning on it from the beginning. I actually hadn't seriously considered it until my doctor brought it up. My upper arms are actually my biggest issue since the rest can be covered with clothes, although it would be awesome to have the extra skin gone everywhere.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
