Blurred vision when I stand

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks out and down 25 lbs (15 post surgery). I've had high blood pressure for a while and with my meds sometimes I can get dizzy/vision fuzzy (best way I can describe it) from my meds (an actual listed side effect). It goes away in seconds. Within the past few days, it has gotten worse (more intense). Any ideas what would cause that?

I get dizzy, light headed when I go too long without eating. My NUT told me to make sure I eat at least every 6 hours to keep my blood sugar levels high enough to avoid that happening.

typically getting dizzy when you stand or get up from lying down is called orthostatic hypotension ... it can be a sign of dehydration ... I would touch base with your surgeon and primary care physician to be safe

I had a similar issue...as I was losing, I started getting slight dizzy spells. Went to my primary, and she wanted to order more tests...while waiting for the tests, I had an appointments already set with my surgeon, my nutritionist, and my Cardiologist (in that order). Told the surgeon, and he was concerned and wanted to see the test results. Told the nutritionist, and she instantly thought it was the dosage of the blood pressure meds, since it's based on your weight...saw the Cardiologist, he adjusted my med dosage, and I had no issues since then!!

Hope the info helps, and I wish you the best success!!

All of the above, plus this: my NUT said follow the 2-3-2 plan (eat within 2 hours of waking up, eat every three hours or so, eat within 2 hours of going to bed). Make sure you are getting enough fluids in, and DEFINATELY have your meds checked!

All the best to you...

I want to say thank you to everyone who took the time to respond. I took my blood pressure this evening and it was down to 110/80 before I took my evening meds. I wonder if It was dropping too low with my meds. I'm calling my PCP tomorrow to see if I can stop altogether. Thanks again everyone!

I know they took me off my blood pressure meds....right after surgery! But my 2 daughters have normally low blood pressure and they have to be careful when getting up fast...and make sure they drink LOTS during the day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
