Breakfast question

Recommended Posts

I haven't because I have a long way to go so I'm mostly avoiding breads. There are recipes that use ricotta and/or Protein Powder. Technically I could, I just don't. I'm not a big breakfast eater. I was drinking Protein Shakes for breakfast before WLS and I still do that.

I don't but that's because those type of foods are all carbs and I'll be starving in an hour after eating them. I stick to an egg or Protein shake.

in theory I could also, but, I don't ... as the others have stated, you will waste calories on something your body is going to be able to use as efficiently ... plus, it will throw your metabolic cycle off ... stick to Proteins and you will stay closer ketosis and burning adipose tissue for fuel ... 2% cottage cheese is my breakfast ... not the best, but, it doesn't upset my stomach after my Vitamins ...

Everything in moderation was the key before and after surgery. But I don't do carbs in moderation well, so I avoid them for the most part.

I'd consider waiting until you were close to your goal weight before you start adding carb-heavy foods back in as treats. But you know your mind better than I do. :) Everything you eat is a choice. That was true before surgery and it's true after.

After 7 months and almost 80 lbs I have had an occasional "carby" breakfast. I usually eat my Protein first and then am VERY satisfied with just a bite or two. You will be amazed at how your body doesn't even crave those kinds of foods any more. I am able to eat most anything I want but I an usually full after my Protein that the other stuff is not as appealing. A bite or two is all I need.

Hope that helps. I was freaked out early after my surgery because my brain and body were not on the same page yet. It takes several months but it will happen. Good luck, stay in touch and welcome to a new and healthier life!!

I eat 1/2 cup Special K High Protein cereal with almond milk about 3 times per week. 10 grams of Protein in 3/4 cup serving.

a lot will depend on you personally, for example there are a lot of Protein pancake mixes out there, and if your to the point where your running a couple miles or working out heavily shortly thereafter, then you may need those minimal carbs and can sustain burning them along with your diet. But in my case, no way Jose. the closest i have come is half of a half a piece of toast with an egg one morning, or a bite of homefries i had one-day that's about it. other than that strictly Proteins. In my maintenance stages sure it might be entirely possible to have some kind of natural Kashi like cereal i suppose, oh i actually used to allow myself 1/4 cup of regular cheerios for breakfast, but now maybe once a month if that. in the summer i can see doing that more as a cold breakfast seems better. But I know if i had a waffle, even the best multigrain etc waffle on the market is not good for you, i would probably stop my weight loss temporarily for a few days and im not doing this whole thing for fun lol ;-)

Good luck.

I can usually handle scrambled eggs whites, a slice of turkey bacon, and a single pancake with light syrup...this is usually just enough for a decent breakfast, without filling me up!

I haven't, because in order to make room for that much carbs, I'd have to sacrifice Protein, which I'm not willing to do. If I go out to breakfast, I order one scrambled egg with some feta mixed in and one sausage patty (I only eat half of the sausage and give the other half to my husband).

Once in a while I crave pancakes, but my go to is 1 egg with a slice of cheese on it almost every day. I typically chase that with 1/2-1 scoop of whey in my coffee about 1 hour later. I feel better with a high Protein low sugar\low carb start to my day and lost well on that routine. If, (once you can eat again) you crave pancakes, check out Eggface's ricotta pancakes for a low carb pancakey alternative that won't kill your progress. They're VERY moist and a good choice early on as the textue is practically "puree".

Keep in mind men typically can eat more than women.

The closest to a carby breakfast is having oatmeal for breakfast. However I make mine from scratch & rolled oats contain Protein. I also add either RTD protein or protein powder to that.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I do have a pancake recipe from the nutritionist that I may try down the road. I had made it once or twice before surgery and it wasn't that bad. I appreciate all of you taking the time to respond!

Here is the recipe if anyone would like it:

1/2 cup oats ( uncooked)

2 eggs or 4 egg whites

1/2 cup cottage cheese

Blend together with some cinnamon and a little vanilla

Cook up pancakes

It made 4-5 pancakes

I ate maybe 2 and froze the rest. They reheated good too

A friend of mine mashes banana and egg together and makes "pancakes" that way. It still a lot of natural sugar, but might be good for a low carb alternative.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
