Breakfast question

Recommended Posts

There's no Cereal that I like that much, however I have had pancakes made with extra Protein. I can eat one with a little butter and I like the low sugar strawberry preserves from Smuckers. Doesn't affect the weight loss that I can tell. However, this is a very once in a while thing. I am 4 months out and have had a pancake 3 times.

Nope never. Sleeved 1-19. You could probably tolerate oatmeal and cream of wheat much better. I always have a Protein Shake for Breakfast followed by a mid morning yogurt if I get hungry. pancakes ansD waffles will sit on your tummy like a lead brick!

Ooo the strawberry preserves sound yummy. I've actually got an unopened jar of raspberry preserves that someone gave me for Christmas. Guess I'll try them on my pancake this weekend! In fact, I'm thinking of making a thinner batter, calling it a crepe and rolling it up with cream cheese and preserves....drooool.....

Swap those raspberry preserves for marmalade and I'm right there with you!

I'm about 6 months post-op. I don't eat waffles or pancakes (not a big sacrifice for me) and greatly limit bread, but have occasionally had 1 slice of light (40 cal) wheat toast with poached egg. However, I often add a very small amount of granola to my greek yogurt and fruit for breakfast, mostly for the crunch. I also occasionally have a 1/4 cup of steel cut oatmeal with some skim milk or kefir in it. I do try to avoid those kinds of carbs but if I give it to myself once in awhile in a small amount, I don't crave it.

This morning I went out to Breakfast with my Dad. I debated between one scrambled egg, or a side of cottage cheese. Turned out that the cottage cheese had more Protein. I also ordered a cup of fruit. I ate probably a 1/4 of the cottage cheese and about a 1/3 of the fruit cup. My husband was quite happy to get the left overs. There are a lot of left overs in my house. My teenager doesn't want them, however!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
