Surgery 3-16-15 an starving

Recommended Posts

I have been having so many heaving. I started on mashed potatoes very mashed. Then I went to eggs now I'm just trying stuff I'm hungry I eat about every 2 hours. My family had pizza an I had some it started bad stomach pains but I'm hungry I can't stick to the diet plan. I went two weeks all liquids an now I'm a week an a day out an I'm hungry for more food an I'm weak I try it but I could only eat a little. But I feel like this was wrong I like food I just need a tool to help me but its not helping much as I thought I can eat solids a week out help

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. Unfortunately you seem to have bad info. Did you spend time with a nutritionist? I know the plan is different from doctor to doctor so I am just going to tell you about the plan I am on. My surgery was 3/19/2015 so I am one week out. You should probably be on the full liquid diet. That means 3 meals a day that consist of about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of very thin food. Protein is key so yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, cream Soup made with milk, as such. In between meals you should be drinking 4oz Protein Shakes. Three a day. Drink all day. 64oz of no calories fluids. You can do this! If you drink your fluids & follow the plan 100% you shouldn't be so hungry. Definitely contact your nutritionist if you have one. Good luck & it's not to late to start over.

I'm having some pretty severe pains all down my left side were they took the extra stomach out. I have had diarrhea everyday since my surgery an its not even controllable. I fell like I can't go any where an the pain takes me off my feet sometimes what could that be?

Time to call your doctor. You need something to control the loose stools before you get dehydrated. You probably also need something for pain. Overall if you are this miserable you need to call your doctor.

I read that you can become lactose intolerant after the surgery and this can cause diarrhea also...try switching to soy or almond milk for your Protein Drinks to see if that helps. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
