I'm 5 months post op, and I'm struggling. I've stalled... and I have so much more to go!

Help! I feel crappy, depressed, and frustrated!

Anyone with any ideas.. Please share them!

Also, I'm new at this forum thing.... Thanks!

I've read lots of posts and articles, and my Dr says just keep plugging away...I feel like I'm getting no where, and I'm scared I'll start to slack off...

Well, I was told the first 3 months were "free" as far as losing weight was concerned, anything after that I would have to work for. And I am. What I do is go back to the basics; minimize the carbs, get in as much liquid as I can, focus on serious Protein, make sure I get in my vitamins..., maybe exercise a little more vigorously. Seems to work. I am at 3 1/2 months out, and am down 50lbs. Doc says I should lose about 65 percent of my EXCESS body fat due to the surgery, so I'm probably close to that. Anything extra that appears to be "free", I'll take! Good luck and hang in there!

If you haven't taken measurements already do so. Sometimes the scale isn't moving but your still losing inches.

@@Elode, that is so true, weird, I wake up each day smaller even if the scale doesnt move, seems impossible but I have witnessed it first hand, hang in there Sunflower we all took a long time to gain and I know it would feel so much better to lose it fast but after all the work, undergoing MAJOR surgery and still waking up each morning, you should Celebrate every ounce, you have earned it! And DON'T SLACK, look what you put yourself through to get here, never forget it!!! ,<3

I know how you feel, I did lose at my weigh in tonight.

I see some though, and their weight just seems to fall off effortlessly.

I know it will take time, I just get get discouraged when the scale doesn't move.

I will take my measurements though!!

When the weight loss stops for no apparent reason, it may be a normal stall, or it may be time for a reality check. Are you getting 64+ ounces of Fluid in every single day? Try bumping it up. More fluids helps. Are you getting your 80+ grams of Protein in every single day? Are you avoiding all starches and sugars every single day? And finally, are you exercising regularly? If the answer to all those question is "yes", then it's probably a stall. As others have said, during a stall the inches continue to come off. Hang in there. It will break soon, if it hasn't already. (You said you lost yesterday.) Good luck!!!

My husband had surgery March 3rd. He is doing fairly well with eating. He is having some trouble with indigestion though. I think he is identifying the cause. My main question is how can I help him get out of this funk. He seems depressed. Doesn't want to go or do much other than watch tv. He mentioned calling his surgeon for something for depression. I called for him but the surgeon said he should contact his family dr. I can't get him to go to his dr. I want to be supportive and not a nag. Any ideas?

Sorry I see I replied to a post instead of starting a new conversation. This is my first post and I don't know how to navigate the site yet.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
