Daisee68 2,493 Posted March 25, 2015 I am sure this is somewhere else too, but I haven't located it so I thought I would start a new one. I had a counseling appointment today and one of the things we talked about is understanding my reasons for doing this surgery. (I am still pre-op.) Not just the generic reasons - smaller clothes, healthier, etc., but really achievable and measurable reasons. My counselor said I need to solidify these so that that when I want to give in to that head hunger, I have something to combat it with. So here are my top few for now: 1) Functional "cure" of diabetes / off metformin 2) Never over a weight limit again - attic ladder, swim park slides, chairs! 3) Able to to have my picture taken and not turn away from the pic when I see it - no longer in full denial that I actually look like that! 4) Fit in airplane seat with both arms down. What are some of your reasons?

PMJ 55 Posted March 25, 2015 Joint pain getting worse but mostly I would like to stop the battle, every day I wake up and start the losing cycle of food. Look foreward to finally see food as nothing more than food to help keep me alive. Get back into a swim suit…I love swimming. Air plain seat a definite, they seem to just keep getting smaller …no really it's not just my body getting bigger Think all these tools are good to have to help us stay on track and fall back on if need be. We are almost there!
James Marusek 5,244 Posted March 25, 2015 On my retirement, I bought a beautiful sports car. But I could barely fit in it. Now after I lost 110 pounds, it fits like a glove.
drmeow 323 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) I started a list several months ago with my major goals for WLS. None of them are numbers on a scale, a clothing size or for looks. Most of them are activities I want to do, some are health goals. I wanted to have very specific things to work towards: (in no particular order) Climb basement stairs without getting winded. Be able to go skiing Hike on Appalachian trail again Ride my bike for an hour on the canal path (I live near the C&O Canal towpath) Tie my shoes without abdominal pain Get off BP meds Reduce or get off asthma meds Be able to kneel and get back up easily Horseback riding again Take martial arts lessons Edited March 26, 2015 by drmeow
nybaby 6 Posted March 27, 2015 Getting off all 7 medications I was on Being healthier Feeling, Looking Better Fitting into "Normal" size clothing Not eating to the point of feeling so stuffed then feeling disgusted with myself For my kids Being able to actually want to be in photographs Feeling sexy for my husband For my total happiness
Seagull00 19 Posted March 30, 2015 Ditching my cpap Being able to play with my kids Walk or even run without feeling embarrassed and in pain. ( I'm actually training for my very first 5k now!) Be able to buy high quality trendy clothing instead of mail order , " ugh, it fits so it's fine" Wear sleeveless shirts Ride roller coasters Feel beautiful, sexy and confident But my biggest reasons are my three daughters. I want to dance at their weddings, hold my grandchildren. Be alive because, frankly, the way I was going, I would not be alive in 10-20 years.
