Vitamins/supplements

Recommended Posts

I am looking for people with excellent doctors to help me out. I feel like I am taking too many supplements. I have to take 2 Calcium pills, Vitamin K, a Multivitamin, B12, 3 hair Vitamins.< /p>

Does anyone get enough vitamins from food? Is this what everyone takes?

Thy have never blood tested me for my amounts, this is the standard for their office. If I don't have to ale all this stuff, I don't want to. I read calcium pils aren't good for your heart. I already have blood pressure issues. Please let me know what vitamins your dr requires? Tia.

I have always been told that the only supplement banded people need (unless they have unrelated medical needs) is one multi-vit a day. And that is what I have had for nine years. My bloods were done a few months ago and the only result not in the normal range was Vitamin D which was slightly HIGH!

We shouid be to eat a properly balanced diet. And hair?? Hair loss is fairly common for those like bypassed people who have rapid weight loss but for us the only risk is from the anaesthetic, and that damage is done at the time if the op, manifests itself about three months later and by that time regrowth has started!

They haven't accidentally given you the regime for bypassed people have they?

They must be old school or something, because I was thinking the same thing. Why can't I get nutrition from food? I am concerned I am I taking too many Vitamins and when I met with my dietician or nutritionist she gave me a for, again with vitamins and even tho it said for sleeve patients she says lap band is the same. Thanks again for the reply!

Sleeves are more like we are than bypass people as neither banded nor sleeved people malabsorb. But most sleeved people eat around 600-800 calories for the first few months and then under 1000 until they finish losing, most banded people eat around 1000-1200 calories.

1200 is the calorie level used by orgs like WeightWatchers and it is perfectly possible to get a balanced diet. I have been banded fir nine years and am a regular on another board. In all that time, I have time and tme again seen it said that banded people need just one multi-vit a day. People may choose to take more, like Calcium etc.. But the band manufacturers do not say more is required.

I am not saying your doctr/nutritionist is wrong! But certainly very unusual!!!!

I was told to take a Multi Vitamins and mineral supplement that's has Calcium

I think the calcium and minerals WITHIN one supplement may well be quite often suggested. I did take a additional calcium supplement through my own choice as I am post-menopausal. But in my own case, I then checked my intake and found that I get the recommended level from my diet which turned out to be quite high in calcium and too much can lead to kidney stones!

I went to the doctor today... He said a multivitamin and calcium... you are clearly over using the Vitamins. You shouldn't take vit k unless you have very thin blood that doesn't clot. Your multivitamin can have all the ingredients of the other vitamins if you find the right one. Good luck :-)

I was told that only a Multivitamin was necessary. I take a Gummy one just to avoid having to swallow the large pill. They even suggested flint stones chewable vitamins.

I've never worried about Calcium. I get plenty of calcium through food (yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese, etc)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
