Hi, from what I understand, everyone feels pain or discomfort. I had my sleeve on 12/30/14. my experience was five days out, I was still sore, but not enough to need anything more than Tylenol. I think it hurt more emotionally when I found out that I couldn't do sit- ups for a few weeks!

I hope that you are going to have the same experience.

I am 2 weeks post op, VGS, and I still have sore muscles and can't sleep in a bed laying flat. I also had a small hernia repair. I'm thinking that is were most of my pain is coming from..

I am 4 weeks post-op. I never had pain or discomfort from my incisions. I did have terrible gas and spasms until my first BMvmt 4 days after surgery. After that it's been hit and miss with the spasms. Had some issues with artificial sweeteners, but things are finally looking up!

Hang in there!

Yes sleepiness is normal. You just had a major surgery! Plus the pain meds.. It'll take a few days for the anesthesia to wear off. It's ok to feel sleepy for even a couple of weeks as your body heals itself. I'm having to take a nap in afternoons if I have allot that I have to take care of. But every day does get easier..

Oh that's good to know..I didn't know I still had anesthesia in me. That makes sense. I'm extremely tired. Today I woke up at 8 had half an Oz of lemonade and walked took my meds and went back to sleep until 1230:/

@@changes1 I am 4 weeks out and am still suffering total exhaustion whether I am active or not. Called the nurse today and she said to drink G2 Gatorade and eat fruit. Ok, I'll do that, but I'm going to see my family doctor if I am not feeling better tomorrow. This is getting scary.

You have lost a large amount of weight very fast in addition to eating very little. Even with all the Vitamins and Protein, people can become like you. Someone in my support group complained about the same problem, the moderator suggested that if every instruction was being followed it should pass within a couple of weeks. The Moderator also suggested her following up with her Doctor. So...call and yes you are doing the right thing. Oh, and congratulations on your weight loss!

I had my sleeve on 3/23 and came home yesterday. A little sore last night. Gassy. Burpy. But overall okay. Could not wait to get out of that hospital. Eating and drinking is still interesting. To say the least. :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
