What are your food stages?

Recommended Posts

I know every program is different so this is just out of curiosity....

I have 4 stages -

1. Clear liquid - days 1-2

2. Full liquid - (shakes, yogurt, cream Soups, applesauce, pudding, jello) - days 2-14

3. Purée/soft foods (egg salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese, turkey deli meet, mashed banana, etc -just a few items on my list from NUT) - days 14-60

4. Normal" foods/Maintenance diet - Day 60+

Anyone else have the purée and soft stage together? How many stages do you have?

Hellooooo

I was the same as your schedule. Worked out great.

When I was finally able to eat, I was only allowed to eat 2 teaspoons every 2 hours. To this date, I have continued this way of eating. Still works great. I just had my labs done so I know i am eating enough Protein. I do not, however, drink Protein shakes because they did not settle well in my tummy.

Puree/Soft foods were the same. At this time I was eating refried Beans w/shredded cheese because it was soft.

Have a fun journey.

Posts-op stages for me were:

Clear liquids: Day 1-3

Full liquids (Protein shakes and drinkable yogurt): Day 4-9

Full liquids (add strained cream soup): Day 10-17

Pureed/soft Stage 1 (greek yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled egg, chicken/tuna salad): Day 18-27

Pureed/soft Stage 2 (ground meats, legumes, canned veggies and fruits, soft whole grains): Day 28-39

Solid Foods as tolerated: Day 40

I can't wait for some refried bean! Yum!

Also I'm not a fish eater (can't stand it) but that is allowed on my soft/purée stage so I'm thinking of trying it again-maybe I will like it now. Problem is I have zero clue where to buy, what to buy, how to cook it! Off to google some ideas!

Mine was completely different! (Which felt odd at the time! I wondered if my surgeon was crazy)

Day 1(Day of surgery): Nothing by mouth

Day 2: Clear Liquids

Day 3: Full liquids & Soup

Discharged from hospital on Day 3.

Day 4 (At home): pureed food.

Day 30(1-Month Follow Up): Solids.

Stage 1..first day...clear liquid..aka Water

Stage 2 day 2-21 Clear Liquids under 10 calories and Protein drinks only

Stage 3 week 3 soft puréed food..yogurt, strained cream Soup made with milk, soft cheese

Stage 4 weeks 4- one month...soft Proteins, lean meats...eggs, cheese, tuna, tender chicken, 90% hamburger

Stage 5...week 8-life...can now add veggies and fruit slowly...2/3 of meal should be Protein and veggie needs to be soft and non starchy...can eventually add 1/4 cup of complex carb starch such as brown rice, Pasta, sweet potatoe, etc

My stages seem to be more "severe" than everyone else's and it sometimes disappoints me but I'm sure it's for a great reason...changing my eating habits!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
