KFried 1 Posted March 24, 2015 Did anyone have to have esophageal Manometry testing? Had EGD (which was normal); am waiting to have tube shoved up nose/down throat. Good times!
matev 5 Posted March 24, 2015 Hi KFried... I had it done. For me it was difficult, however I believe the local anesthetic didn't work quite well the first time and I tend to be a nauseous person (and a bit coward too). The second time was successful though, just a stronger anesthetic and lots of deep breathing. .. overall it's a simple and quick test... after you swallow the little tube you just have to swallow Water a couple of times, wait a few seconds and that's it. Best of luck!!!
speechsteff 2 Posted March 24, 2015 It's not pleasant but you can do it. I never want to do it again....that's for sure. I think trying to relax is key.
speechsteff 2 Posted March 24, 2015 Are you all from central california? It seems like ALSA is one of the only ones with this manometry requirement.

VickiCat 11 Posted March 27, 2015 I had one. Not a pleasant test to be honest. Really try to stay relaxed during the procedure so it will be over with sooner. My throat bothered me for 24 hours afterward.
Dawnie Doo 184 Posted April 5, 2016 I recently had an esophageal manometry, and it was by far the worst test that I've endured! I had to have 10 consecutive uninterrupted swallows. The numbing spray wore off half way through the test, which was painful. My test lasted for about 1 hr 15 mins because I couldn't get 10 consecutive sips and swallows without the intermittent swallows by nature. Smh I felt like I was choking the entire time! My RN was extremely nice and considerate, which helped, a little. Yet and still, I will NOT have that test again! I'm currently awaiting results to determine whether or not the sleeve or bypass would be most appropriate. Dawnie_doo
