Delayed Restriction from Fill

Recommended Posts

WHY????? Does it sometimes take a week or so to feel restriction?

This boggles my mind, why would it take two weeks to feel it when most people end up with swollen restriction directly after.

Does it take a long time for the saline to travel and settle into the band or what?

  • I DID call my docs office today, and just got voicemail...
  • I DID also do a search of these boards with no definative answer.. I 'm sure it has been discussed but must be hidden in some obscure thread... so I'm posting this out here.

If someone has an answer for me, and or knows a good thread that will answer I would REALLY appreciate a link posted here.

THANKS!!!!!!!!

I'd like to know too. I had my first fill about 10 days ago and no restriction from it. Is it really possible I might still get restriction from this fill? Interesting question.

Ditto, why DOES this happen???

I'm not questioning that it does, I believe it does, because I'm feeling my last fill of May 30 more now than I did the next day....but I am questioning WHY???

From my band twin Denise.. (Adorable)

My doc said that because air bubbles do tend to get into the tubing, the 1-2 week time (and us moving around) gives the Fluid that they inject time to redistribute itself fully into the band through all of the possible air bubbles...makes a little sense to me...I'd be interested in hearing other possible reasons!

I grew up on a ranch and I have my own theory about why fills can take awhile to "kick in" based on irrigation techniques.

It is my thought that when they inject the saline solution in the port that the tubing holds some of the fill - which is why some ppl can have more than the band size filled, the tube is taking in some saline.

That saline gets slowly sucked into the band by suction.

This is only my theory. But it seems logical to me.

I asked my surgeon about the delayed effect for fills and he said it happens but nobody really knows why. I was hoping to hear something more definitive, but it seems to be some weird phenomenon.:guess

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
