I got a treadmill!

Recommended Posts

On my local swap I traded for a treadmill. Seemed like a great idea. I walk around 5 miles a day, never break a sweat (hard to do in a Michigan winter). This machine is kicking my butt! 2 days and I only got in 2 majorly sweaty miles on 2 nd day. Why is it so much harder than walking on the ground? I do have it on an incline and my calves are screaming.

I can handle 2.7 mph and I'm quite sure I don't walk that fast on my outdoor walks.

Amazing, a year ago I was stuffing my face with God knows what. Now I own a treadmill and buy workout clothes a year later. Amazing!

I had trouble walking the same distance on a treadmill that I can outside. It wasn't the distance, but the boredom. I now watch movies on my Kindle or listen to eBooks, using headphones to drown out the sound of the motor.

Hi @@kimpossible67, you hit the nail right on the head when you said the magic word.. "incline". With the incline treadmill these days you can do a hell of a work out on it in less time. I move mine from between 2 - 4 depending on the speed im walking at. Check this video out - Beginner Incline Training , it will show you what you can do to help you achieve your goal faster etc on the treadmill. You may spend a hour walking on the road, but on the treadmill you can get the same results in a shorter amount of time.

below are a couple of decent videos I found online :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUVrO8_reRs - incline training - glut and hamstring toning, flatten abdomen and posture enhancement

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjMsIvmrYgY - interval training for beginners

whilst I love walking by the lake where I live, winter is coming and im glad I purchased my treadmill last year in preparation for the days I wont be venturing out to exercise as im not a person to go out to a gym. :D

Right? Fortunately I have all my groove songs on my iPod and I just sing away.

I don't use an incline on the machine I use in our club house. I also don't speed it up much. The idea is moderation. Go for distance rather then killing yourself with speed.

Today was my first day back in the gym. I did 20 minutes spinning at about a 50 rotations per minute, set on easy, a 3 out of 20. I was not able to spin that long pre surgery.

Tonight, I'm feeling good, no pain. I worked my armd and abs as well......and girl....I'm 59 years old.

I have a friend in Bungador! We got to be friends playing words with friends. We've even met when they came to the states 2 yrs ago! They are coming to the states this fall and will be coming to Michigan to see me and meet my family! Your country is so fascinating. She sent me a wallaby pelt!

Well as it turns out my knee is in pain. I had it scoped 10 years ago. It's not muscular pain but pain pain. I'm my own worst enemy. I put it on as much of incline as I can because I'm clearly dumb. I see dr today, I will talk to him about what I can do to continue my exercise schedule. I'm not giving up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
