Truthfully, I don't think of myself as special. But, if I have to come up with something, I'm very proud of the daughters I've raised and I like to think that being their mother has contributed to the really wonderful, special people they are. I also have a master's degree in nursing, and while I don't provide hands-on care anymore, I do think the work I do in nursing informatics impacts patients and nurses across the country in a positive way.

There is truly no more important job in the world than being a great mom. The only one that even compares is being a daddy.

Ok, so this is an awesome thread. I think I "liked" every post in it.

I was independent at 18 and moved across the country from my family, I finished college on my own and earned a BA, often by donating plasma so I could afford to eat (which seemed less awful at the time than it does now), I started my own business, which fingers crossed is still successful, I have a paramedic, RN, and real estate license (none of which I use, but I enjoyed getting them), and I have so far managed to not end up broke, homeless, and forced to explain why I can't eat certain foods at my local Soup kitchen. :)

I am awesome and always have been. :)

However, the thing that makes me special is that due to some amazing good luck I met and had the good sense to actually marry a man who is perfect for me and adores me.

How cool is that!

Same here. Also, I'm incredibly humble. ;)

Computers and I get along great, and I find some humans tolerable. It's that second part that really makes me one-of-a-kind!

Yes, yes you are awesome :)

And I had the good sense to marry my perfect mate, also. 26 years in April :)

I've got a smart mouth and a smart mind-both of which helped me to survive the loss of my little boy and go on to have 2 sassy daughters.

I can wiggle my nostrils. I love to do it at people in very serious moments knowing they can't laugh out loud!

What a great thread! Thanks for starting it @LipstickLady.

What's special about me? Maybe because I am the youngest child of 5, but I can get along with just about anyone. This has served me well! In my last job I worked for a state agency and beat out about 10 people to get the job. After being there a few years, I asked the supervisor what made her pick me. I thought maybe it was my obvious expertise, but no, she said that everyone agreed I would be the best to get along with! Turns out the last hire had been a disaster and couldn't get along with anyone.

I now work for the federal government and believe me, this skill continues to come in very handy :)

Yes, you might argue with me, but I doubt you would win !!!! I always say ''If he was any more laid back , he'd be asleep !" He is calm , patient , easygoing, smart , caring and supportive. And for some unknown reason, is still wildly attracted to me, even after 33 years together. Through thick and thin, literally and figuratively !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
