I'm 5 days post op. The gas is definitely an issue. I am having what almost feels like a hiccup that hurts. It's located on my left side between my breast. It only last a second or two, but boy dies it hurt. The more I walk the better I feel. I have had almost no pain post op Other than from gas and my back from the dang stretcher I layed on for 5 hours.

Gas pain was really painful for me. Everything else the morphine got rid of. They say walking helps it but I didn't notice a difference with that it just felt good to not be sitting or laying

My hubby calles it 'chernobul' as in the nucleor (sorry about the spelling), lol.

22 months out and STILL have bad gas. I blamed it on our kitty's until one day I had a really bad "release" and I felt so guilty I fest up. My hubby just looked at me and laughed. "that's YOU" , lol

I got use to running to the bathroom cause you never knew if it was air or something else, lol.

I actually had about 3 accidents in the night since the surgery. Embarresing but what can you do.

I keep Fabris (the clothing and air freshener) handy.

Now that winter i over I can now open a window, lol

Never trust a fart lol ????

About the gas right after surgery...I've heard it is quite painful. I've also heard "to walk it off". What about walking makes the pain go away?

Also, does it just 'come out'? As a toot, or as air?

In other words, will I be farting up and down the hall?:o

@,

Gas doesn't come out as some huge raunchy fart...lol. It will pass slowly and quietly. You may burp more frequently..

Do not push the gas out as it can strain and cause you a whole new level of discomfort.

I've liked drinking. The Decaf tea and coffee.

I just had my surgery yesterday so I understand and empathize completely.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
