LauraVSGinNZ 10 Posted March 21, 2015 Had anyone flown long distance within a month after surgery? 12 hours plus.
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) If you head over the the Self-Pay and Mexico forums, you will read about hundreds and hundreds of people who flew within days of surgery. I live in Rochester, NY and flew to San Diego and back to have my surgery in NY. My return trip was 4 days post-op. I did just fine, even when one of my flights was cancelled and I had to run the full length of O'hare in order to make the only other flight returning to Rochester that day. Edit the longer of my two flights was a little over 4 hours, so not the 12 you are talking about. But a month out is a lot different than 4 days out. I don't see why a 12 hour flight would be any issue at all. Edited March 21, 2015 by JamieLogical
Kindle 8,667 Posted March 21, 2015 There was one gal who had surgery same day as me and she had a long flight back from San Diego to NE Canada 3 days postop. The combined flight and drive for her to get home was 14 hours. She was traveling alone so was going to split it up over 2 days...too tired to drive home after long flight. She wore compression stockings (as we all did) and got an aisle seat so she could get up and walk the aisles during the flight. My travel day was much shorter...2 hour flight followed by a 5 hour drive. I'd suggest taking Protein powders that mix well with Water and other foods you are allowed at whatever stage you are in. (I was on pureed food at 1 month out, so I would have brought yogurt, Soup mixes, soft cheeses, etc to nibble on the flight.). Drink drink drink while you are traveling. Like @@JamieLogical said, I wouldn't expect any issues being a whole month out.
