Please Help! Throwing up blood? Just hours post op

Recommended Posts

I'm a sleeve patient, just hours post op. My sleeve was done by Dr. Rodriguez and Dr. Elmo in Juarez Mexico. I'm currently here at the hospital.

I really need help as my Spanish is none! I have thrown up twice what looks like blood. I'm scared and worried something may be wrong with my sleeve.

Has any one experienced this? If so how long will it last and should I be worried?

I feel such every time I get out of bed!

Please respond!

Thanks in advance!

Some times right after surgery people can throw up blood that's in the stomach from the actual surgery. Is the blood bright red?or does it seem like older blood? @@vsgSarah3

Ok then that's older blood. It's pretty normal right after surgery. When they cut your stomach it bleeds and some of the old blood is trapped inside the stomach so when you throw up of course it comes out. You Should let them know just to be safe. Now, if you start throwing up bright red blood then you defiantly need to get help, that would be new blood and that's not good.

I had the same issue. I had to stay a little longer because of it. I think My issue was the toradol. Every time they gave it to me in my IV I started vomiting. It was dark red too. I am a huge weenie with meds.

Surgery 3/9/15 and I did the same. I had some nausea and wasn't vomiting, but was spitting foamies into a cup and could see reddish brown tiny blobs (almost grainy size) in every spit. The nurse said it was blood residue from inside my stomach as a result of the surgery, and that it was perfectly normal. It was only that first day, and maybe a tiny bit the next day.

As a side note, the ice chips and Water also made me nauseous on the second day, but by day 3 preop I was able to sip VitaminWater Zero and such with no problems at all.

Sending Wishes for an easy recovery!

I'm also spitting up the foam spit. I think I'm getting a little better I'll just keep my fingers crossed for no more vomiting.

I am vomiting blood = Estoy vomitando sangre.

I hope it's nothing to worry about! Focus on resting, healing, and getting your fluids. <3

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
