Did your "sips" get bigger a week out?

Recommended Posts

Took me more like 2-3 weeks to get to that point, but yes, once the swelling went down in my stomach and esophagus, it became much easier to take full sips.

Me too. I asked my NUT about it and she said that was normal and it was fine. Just don't chug it really fast so it doesn't make you dick or hurt

I'm 4 days out an site very hard to get a small sip. It's hurts and makes me Burt a lot will this change? Because Water is very important. Dr said I should drink 64 Oz a day but now I'm like 10 oz. I try different temperature and time space between sips but it's very uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Would this get better?

It will get better. I had this whole process that happened every time I took the TINIEST of sips. I would feel a constriction/spasm in my esophagus, right in the middle of my chest. Then there would be a ton of gurgling. Then I would have to burp. Every single sip... not matter how small. It got much better about 2 weeks out, after the swelling had gone down. Now I'm 6 months out and have no issues drinking at all. One thing that helped me get my Water in back when it was a real issue was marching in place while sipping. That really seemed to help some, so give that a try.

I'm 5 days post op and can sip pretty well. Im worried that I may be drinking too much at a time but it doesn't hurt

Yes! The first 2 days even one tiny sip gave me foamies. By day 3 I was able to take small sips easily all day. From the 4th day on I have been able drink with no problem. My surgeon said that water/liquid goes through pretty fast once the swelling is down, but no more than 4 oz in 15 min, heck that is a 16.9 oz bottle of Water in an hour!
