Pain on sides and fullness filling questions

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 3/3

So it has been about 16/17 days or something like that.

On week 3....day 14....I was supposed to start softs.

The foods Iw as told specifically to try were cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt, string cheese, and really well chewed moist fish.

For the past 3 days I have had an egg or two for Breakfast. I have had no real problems getting down two scrambled eggs. A little tough on the last couple of bites, but no real struggles. At lunch I have had greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or colby jack string cheese. No problems with those either. I have tried one piece of tilapia, one piece of salmon. Both of these weighed about 3 ounces....both of them I get close to finishing but get too full to finish the last 2 or 3 bites. I have usually reheated them later and ate the rest.

The last day or so.....I have started to have some pain. I have not felt this pain before. Basically I have a stabbing type pain in my left side, a little below the farthest to the left incision. IT comes and goes, is not unbearable, but it is uncomfortable at times. I have also felt a similar pain directly in the middle of my stomach about 4-5 inches above the belly button. Once again stabbing pain that comes and goes that isn't horrible but doesn't feel nice.

My question is am I eating to much causing the pain. IS it a muscualr problem or something along those lines....anyone experienced these pain s before and what did the doctor say?

I walk about a mile a day, along with being a teacher and football coach. I have been taking it easy in class and gym class....but I am up and downa nd moving during the day along with the walking.

Thank you all.

I haven't experienced anything like you are describing, but I hope you will get some answers! I did have some pain near that lower left incision the first couple weeks post-op, but that was very clearly muscle pain to me.

It could be from eating a bit much. I was one of those who could never finish the last 2 - 3 bites. Pushing it just lead to me being really uncomfortable. This is the relearning part. Don't feel obligated to eat those last few bites. I started off just trashing them, then I switched to cooking a bit less. Instead of a full cup make 3/4 of a cup. By the time you wait 30 mins to an hour to drink Water, your brain will have signaled the belly it is full.

If you're experiencing anything you don't understand, call your surgical team! Why take chances? It is what you paid them to do; take care of you. As for the food amounts, are you trying for full, or sated (which is what you want)? Full is too full, sated is comfortable, but not at the top of your sleeve. As you eat each bite, try to sense where that bite is at in your sleeve. When you start to get to the top, you should be able to feel it, and then stop eating. It shouldn't get to that "slightly uncomfortable" state, because by then you are already at or near the top. It is a new thing for you, this sated feeling. It will take some time to adjust to it, without going over it. Just take your time eating, chewing slowing and thoroughly, let some time elapse before taking another bite, feeling where the last bit "landed". You will soon recognize where your sated point is, and it truly is a "sweet spot"! It's just happy there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
