Why so rude? Please don't do this

Recommended Posts

I went to my first orientation yesterday and couldn't shake off how rude some people were in the class.

1. One woman was upset when she walked into the classroom too early and the director said to wait outside and that they weren't ready. She threw a hissy fit while walking away.

- Even though your orientation is the first class of the day. Be polite and wait for the instructor to open the door. Besides, the directions from our registration forms said to wait for someone to open the door for us. (proper etiquette)

2. One woman was upset that her "support" wasn't able to sit at the table with her during the orientation. Support was told to sit in the back while the attendees sat in the front with binders provided.

- I can see the purpose of this. TO NOT DISTRACT YOU! Yes they are support. Why are they there if they're not sitting with you? They're there to see first hand what your are being taught at the same time. To help understand. To help support YOU.

3. During break we were allowed to snack on whatever we brought and all the wanna be "popular/rude girls" just made fun of almost everyone

- Do not mock or make fun of what people bring. So what if someone brought a chipotle burrito, vienna sausages, or anything "surprising" to you. It's plane disgusting to make fun of someone else for their situation when your at the same class as them trying to fix yourselves.

4. Put your phone away.

- Just like the movies, a cell phone from two rows away are just as annoying as seeing it a fully lite class of people that want to make lifestyle changes.

5. DO NOT TAKE PICTURES IN CLASS

- If youhaven't heard of HIPAA you probably should want to know what it's all about by now. Taking pictures during class violates HIPAA regulations and will get you kicked out of the class. Common, protect patient privacy... not just you... everyone else around you... that doesn't wanna be in your stupid Facebook updates.

6. Do not take over the course

- Don't publicly argue with the instructor because something is against your personal lifestyle, such as eating fat free Salad Dressing.

I agree! There was one person in my orientation that argued with the dietician about the benefits of 'Ensure'. My dietician said that it wouldn't be allowable as a Protein drink post-op, and he continued to argue about the health benefits. It wasn't until she told him that Ensure was full of sugar - that he finally piped down.

Sad, but true, long gone are the days of proper etiquette and common courtesy.

I hate that your orientation class was not as positive experience as it should have been for you, @likelike. Now that it's behind you, you can focus on all the upcoming appointments you'll have.

Wow. Where'd you take orientation, the local grade school? Seems like orientation should be all about the folks in the room absorbing information rather than whining about what the professionals are trying to teach them. Compliant losers are SUCCESSFUL losers! Let those folks be a horrible warning. YOU be a good example!

And THANK YOU for bringing it to attention of those who are new to the arena. It is so true there are little or no manners out there anymore. If, indeed, these people to whom you refer do have the surgery, I have the feeling they won't even respect themselves enough to follow the WLS rules, and will soon fall into their old vices. Good luck to you on your journey...

Oh gosh - yeah, you can run into some characters out there!

I met a woman in my first class who told me my surgeon was no good, that her surgery was better because she was "only getting cut once" but I was "getting cut 5 times", and that I was going to be unhappy because she was getting a bypass and would lose more weight than me.

Sometimes all you can do is nod, smile, and tune out the noise!

Not bitch-slapping idiots requires discipline.

It did pre-op.

And it will post-op.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
