4 days post op-should I be doing more?

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days pot op and on full liquids. I walk very hour after drinking my Protein. My stomach is a little sore but no pain. Other than that I just sit and relax. I feel like I should be doing more. What were you doing the first week post op?

Walking, shopping, sightseeing and taking naps day 1 and 2. Flew from San Diego to SLC and drove myself home 5 hours on day 3/4 (had to stay in a hotel 1/2 way home because the roads were so icy.) Plowed my driveway, went shopping and fed horses and dogs when I got home day 4. Sat around and did nothing day 5 (Christmas day). Got a haircut and nails done and worked a couple hours from home day 6. Back to work day 7.

But your schedule seems a lot nicer to me. I was hoping to relax for 2 weeks but that obviously didn't happen.... Enjoy your down time!

How lazy can you be? You should be running a marathon four days post-op!

I'm joking, of course. You should walk if possible, but listen to your body. My surgeon's instructions were no lifting more than 10 lbs, which I followed. I did casual walking between 1-3 miles a day. I did nap almost every day and I'm not a napper.

I did lots of mall-walking and clothes shoppin' for "down the road," which was totally fun! I didn't spend too much because I didn't know what my ultimate low weight would be.

I was cleared for full cardio two weeks after surgery and full weights a month after surgery; however, I did not return to weights for about 2 months.

Best of luck on your journey!

Hi!

I had my sleeve last year and I remember feeling terrible for the first few days post-surgery.

As soon as I got better, I started walking. Of course, I had invested in good sneakers beforehand (I would have never thought i'd spend a fortune on quality sneakers two years back...) and walked walked walked. And I still do, to this day, it has become a habit, and I started enjoying it :)

I'm trying to up my Protein today to 4 oz an hour. I do have a light schedule and should enjoy it. I'm just ready to get back to normal I guess

I'm about 10 days post op. I had a couple of days where I was edgy and wanted to tackle home projects but then I took a deep breath. This is probably the only time in my life where I have had the one goal of healing and getting stronger. I'm following the rules for food and Water and I'm napping every day. The healing is going really fast. I'm thrilled and taking one day at a time.

I just walked some, did a lot of marching in place while drinking (it helped), and watched a lot of TV. Oh and napped a fair amount!

Walk, nap, walk, nap and maybe a load of laundry in there (my kids carried the basket for me). It was Day 7 before I had tons of energy and no need for nap. I felt so good I thought I could lift stuff, I was quickly reminded not to do that yet. I am on Day 16 and still not lifting because I immediately feel strained but I walked a couple of miles today and could have walked more if it didn't start raining!

I'm also on my third day and feeling a bit sore. It hurts to get up or down and also feel a bit short of breath. However I am doing a lot of walking around the house, I know I am not going to win a marathon but it makes me feel much better, I am also doing a lot of breathing excercises with my triflo, that's a bit uncomfortable because I feel it makes me gassy but in the long run I guess it helps me

I am on day 4 post op and I am having these deep growling, spasms pains in my upper mid abdomen. Idk if it's gas or from hernia removal but if it wasn't for that I would be doing great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
