Local Legends - The Original Soft Beef Jerky - OMG

Recommended Posts

I have been struggling with beef, chicken, pork and turkey since I was sleeved in Oct 2014. I had almost given up on these until today! I went to my local Coles Supermarket and bought Local Legends Beef Jerky made right here in Australia - its made in New South Wales with 100% Aussie Beef and firstly it not only tastes good.. but my Sleeve likes it!! Maybe its because it forces me to chew forever and a day! I'm so going to be stocking up on this product!

Yep, beef and turkey Jerky are my "secret weapons". By that I mean that whenever I'm unsure of what the food situation is going to be, I plan ahead by bringing along a bag of jerky. That way I can't be caught without something appropriate to eat. A bag of jerky is a satisfying meal!

Beef Jerky is one of my staple snack items too. I've been known to stock up on 8-10 huge bags at a time at our local costco (which lasts me about 3 weeks!). It's SO much cheaper to buy it in bulk! I have trouble with the sodium though. If I eat too much of it, I gain Water weight the next day. It's always temporary but I'm aware ingesting too much sodium isn't good for me!

I should probably clarify that I'm not sure it's the brand you mentioned. I don't have it with me at the moment but the teriyaki one they have is awesome! A huge bag is the same price you pay for a small bag in the stores.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
