I am on the official pre-op today prescribed by the nutrionist, now let me remind all of you that I have been drinking these Slim Fast Optima shakes for a week now and eating a sensible meal but as of today the sensible meal has been reduced to a sandwich and 1 cup of raw veggies, so now I'm starving. I know this is all psychological because all last week I was fine with the shakes and dinner but now I feel as if my stomach is on my back. Did any of you feel the same way? I think I need to drink more Water because I was a little busy today so I didn't get much in. Any suggestions, please share.:hungry:

Aside from drinking more Water (with crystal light or plain) I have heard some people swear by the slim fast shakes that have a higher ammount of Protein in them and that it keeps them fuller longer. Honestly though, you're just not going to be able to deviate too much from what your nutritionist has you on, so maybe putting in a phone call to them and describing your hunger (nerves, pre-surgery jitters, whatever you want to call it). Stay busy and hydrated. You don't have that much farther to go, so stay strong!

This part is so HARD.

It is so worth it.

Hi, this is my 4 day of 14 on the pre-op liquid diet. This is very hard. No solids at all. Only 3 Protein shakes and all the sf drinks and Water I want. I'm tried of drinking sf drinks. Everything is sweet except the broth and Water. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I know it will be worth it, and I'm taking it one day at a time. Wish I could have a salad or veggies. Good results : 10 lbs in 3 days.:clap2:

My preop states no soft drinks, sugar free or not. I think this would help if I could at least have the sugar free. I'll keep you posted, starts Monday.

I'm hanging in there on the pre-op. I have turned my chicken breast into chicken spread and everything. I guess tomorrow I will go back to the roast beef luncheon meat because I can honestly say I'm tired of the chicken. Good luck all!

I know it's hard but, Every Dr. is different. I have 3 days to go and I'm on Clear Liquids only and 90 grams of protien shakes a day. two made with 4oz of Water only. No soada because post surgery you can't have any it can stretch you new pocket. I would love to have a chicken not just the broth. Good Luck but, i'm sure that you can do it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
