Ky Passport Insurance

Recommended Posts

For anyone interested I'm posting my experiences with Ky Passport Insurance requirements and Georgetown Bariatrics: I have posted other info up to this point which can be read from my profile.....ok so I received a call from the insurance coordinator who is extremely nice and knowledgeable she scheduled me for an appointment on March 31st, this is an all day see everyone appointment from 8am- 4pm which I think is a brilliant idea dietician, surgeon, psych all done in one day psych evaluation is not covered by my insurance and is the only out of pocket cost at $250 that is due the day of this appointment they call you the day before to collect this fee. She says a packet of info will be sent out explaining the details of the day. She went over again my supervised "diet" requirements which for me personally is that I'm 5'8" 272lbs and a BMI of 41.3 so she stressed that I cannot gain any weight or lose any weight that will take me under a 40 BMI or I will be denied straight away ???? so that's going to be a balancing act. She said maintaining weight is still considered success. Ok that's all I have for now. It really seems to be going fairly quickly, I have my 2nd "diet" check in with my PCP on April 10th to make sure I haven't lost any weight I guess lol. I will follow up whenever I have anymore info. Thanks for reading.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
