cadegirl 20 Posted March 18, 2015 Why do some have to have tpn infusion? What exactly is it?
TristanNicole 169 Posted March 18, 2015 TPN is total parenteral nutrition and is usually the LAST option in terms of getting someone the nutrition they need.
Kindle 8,667 Posted March 18, 2015 TPN stands for total parenteral nutrition. It is a mixture of fats, amino acids and other nutrients that can be administered intravenously. It is used for patients that can't take in anything via mouth. In the case of WLS patients, this may be used in the case of a stricture or leak that they are trying to repair/heal or if a patient cannot keep anything down due to nausea/vomiting.
